Could the Buzz be "jacking" us around a little?

I have to admit, I rarely if ever listen to the Buzz, so this may be totally ordinary, but I could not help but notice the past 2 times I stumbled on them, that the tunes I heard seemed to be more "Jacklike" and they were running a liner saying "even we don't know what we are playing next...105.9 the Buzz is officially on shuffle".

Could this mean that the station is toying with the Jack concept? Would it have any impact at all given their reception and sound quality issues even in town with the new booster???

Hitman

Radio has been lying to the listener for years: "More Variety," while playing the same 200/300/400 songs. So, yeah, they could be "jacking" us. Better be cautious about actually following the script, though. Baltimore's "Jack" and Philly's "Ben" have both watched their ratings go down, not up. Buzz only has a 1 share to start with; not much room to drop!

If you listen, they're only doing this "shuffle" thing until the end of the year. Just a holiday promotion is all. I don't see them going to a "Jack" format.

Unless I am missing something...what the heck kind of "holiday promotion" is it? Are they giving away IPOD's or something??? I fail to see what is holiday related, or promotion-like on just playing anything in any order?

I don't hear much difference, except maybe less currents.
Musically, I prefer the pre-sale Buzz. I'm not impressed with the musical direction of the station.

Wait til Ground Hog Day

Well, if they're openly telling their listeners that they're dicking with the format until the end of the year, they must be preparing 'em for SOMETHING! But if they're thinking this through like real pros, they'll hold off doing anything til the fall book comes out at the end of January. See what the research tells ya before changing everything. Worst thing that could happen is for them to switch formats January 1 and then find out 3 weeks later that what they had been doing before was actually working!

I wouldn't read too much into the shuffle thing. Other Alternative stations are running the same type of liners.

Are they running jockless too though? That would be more a reason for concern.

Re: Wait til Ground Hog Day

Depending on whos pulling the strings there, it could be anyones guess. The group that owns the Buzz now did some strange things at first at their rocker on the PA/NY border, but it ended up with great ratings. Def a different market there, but it may be going along the same lines.
Have to wait and see.
