Could the End be near for WWCD ?

This doesn't make any sense to me. If Salem Media of Ohio, Inc where to purchase the license
for 102.5, I doubt they would want to broadcast CD101 on 102.5 anymore.

This is a reply from CD101 on their Facebook page:

"We have an LMA in place with Southeast Ohio Broadcasting, which we have been operating under since WWCD started broadcasting from 102.5. A sale of the station would not affect the LMA, and WWCD looks forward to continuing to provide independent radio to central Ohio listeners for years to come."

Unfortunately, that's all I can say on the matter at this time. We will keep the board updated on any more news."

Looks more and more like Salem is purchasing 102.5 FM and CD101 exspects Salem Media of Ohio to keep the LMA for 102.5
intact.

Doesn't mean they cant break the LMA, or even go as far as to help CD 101 find a new home, and that last sentence (Unfortunately, that's all I can say on the matter at this time. We will keep the board updated on any more news) makes it sound like there is something going on there

In the Gen-X thread the Marv said, "If the rumour about WWCD holds true 106.7 returning to modern rock might not be a bad idea."  Going even further with this thought, I wonder if it's possible Gen-X had some idea about the possibility that WWCD might be driven off the air, encouraging them to shift back toward an Alternative direction?

That is just what I was thinking last night!

So, it looks like Southeast Ohio Broadcasting and/or Salem Media of Ohio Inc. may be planning on breaking the LMA lease with
CD101.

via Radio Insight:

Instant Insight: What is telling about the statement is that CD101 acknowledges a sale of the station could be taking place. I hope for their sake there is no way for Salem or any other future owner to break the lease, as these domain registrations make it clear someone in Salem’s management structure is already making future plans for the station.

CD101 is in now in a fight for it's life because they are trying to keep their LMA contract intact!! THIS FROM a very reliable source!

Sorry, but that is the biggest piece of crap I have heard in a long time.

The licensee holds total control of the station, Period. If the licensee sells the station, it can not be sold "with condition", so any agreement with the current licensee would become invalid.

The current owner of CD101, doesn't even own their call letters, and short of having a legal contract with the current licensee, who they could sue, if the contract was broken, or sue to enforce the agreement for as long as it is valid, there isn't much they can do.

If they have a 5 year agreement for example, and never miss a payment, or break any clause, they may be able to continue, but the first time they do anything that break the agreement, it's over. (easily done, with a bunch of young DJ's, btw)

I somehow doubt that they have a 99 year, a 25, or even a 5 or ten year LMA agreement, and every one that I have ever seen, has an out for the actual licensee. If you're really that interested, go look at their public file. It'll all be there, except the actual figures, as they don't have to be published.

How long is the lease for and what are the opt-outs, if any? If the LMA is posted anywhere it would be interesting reading. Knoxville's 100.3 had that situation; a number of LMA partners leased the signal, the last being Citadel for News/Talk. Citadel missed payments during the bankruptcy and since the debt was discharged, cancelled the LMA early. The owner now operates the station as a rival news talker (big signal, second tier hosts).

Radio Insight is reporting that Ryan Moran, Operations Manager of Salem’s Christian Talk 880 WRFD registered 1025TheFish.com and FMTalk1025.com on behalf of Salem Media of Ohio. Salem specializes in the Fish Christian AC format much like 104.9 the River, and they also have a group of conservative talk.

The FCC needs to lower the boom, and pronto. To allow Salem to kill off CD101 goes against every facet of operating in the public interest.

WWCD's run is over. 102.5 will be in Salem's hands by December 1st. What a year, Radio One is running a rock station in town and now no CD101 or 10whatever. Maybe CC can move it to CD101 @ 102.5 @ 106.7.

I'm no fan of WWCD, but Columbus needs still more Christian radio or more hate-talk (from a "Christian" operator, no less) like it needs a hole in the head.

The FCC doesn't need to do anything. FUN WITH RADIO, LLC had their OWN 100% theirs no one could take it away from them license (as long as they met their FCC reqs) at 101.1 Mhz and THEY sold it...to LEASE another owners station! That was CD101's own doing... You can't fault the owners of 102.5 for considering MORE money.. That's their right as they OWN 102.5, not FUN WITH RADIO, LLC..

Oh yeah and I have nothing against CD101.. I would be kinda sad to see them go... They are one of my 6 presets in the car however, business is business and that's just how things go sometimes.

The FCC can't do anything, no rules have been broken, no procedure violated. The management of CD101, made an apparent bad decision that will potentially end the station. Unless they have a right of first refusal, and they can match the money the other group has offered, they likely will have a hard road to travel.

Life goes on, maybe they can sell the franchise to another owner, or try and get it on and HD2 and a translator...

One thing with translators is coverage isn't all that good. Selling it to another owner might work but how long it lasts depends on how long the new owner likes the success the station gives them. And of course it depends on who's willing to buy it and what signal they decide to put it on. Since most of the major companies in town signals are their cashcows more likely it will go on a rimshot.

Someone just this posted this on the CD101 Facebook page:

Gary Sandler:
Rumor has it that Salem will own 102.5 by December 1, 2011. Everyone say goodbye to CD101.

It appears that Salem will LMA the station on December 1, 2011 and then purchase the station station st a later date.
Not sure how Salem Media of Ohio can own the station by December 1, 2011 when the seller, SOUTHEASTERN OHIO BROADCASTING SYSTEM, INC has yet to make application to sell the station to Salem with the FCC. It's not here yet:

the LMA is the exact process that CD101 is now doing, they don't require FCC approval... It just appears that the licensee is simply leasing to someone else, probably at the end of the current lease.

They can file the purchase/consent to transfer whenever they want in the future, if at all

Salem Media of Ohio must be willing to purchase the station. Maybe that is why SOUTHEASTERN OHIO BROADCASTING SYSTEM, INC is willing to LMA the station to Salem Media of Ohio at first and then latter selling 102.5 to them.
If not, maybe Salem Media of Ohio offered SOUTHEASTERN OHIO BROADCASTING SYSTEM, INC more money to LMA 102.5.
Salem Media normally buys under preforming stations at low price and fixes them up. Not sure what the asking price for
102.5 is but it may have been too much for FUN WITH RADIO, LLC. Other wise, FUN WITH RADIO, LLC would have purchased
the station by now.

BTW, WWCD is still using the CD101 logos on their new limited edition Tee Shirts here:
