Could the teletype have stayed behind in the WINS move???

NJ 101.5 uses the sound of clacking keyboards, ringing phones, and buzzing dot matrix printers in the background of their newscasts. Just as with WINS's teletype, it's a signature sound, regardless if the technology behind it is obsolete. After all, how many TV news themes still have a distinct staccato rhythm meant to imitate Morse code? That's even more of a throwback than the teletype!

If we are to believe some of the information that has come to light on the other radio message board, it would appear that they are using something called Vista Max which is 8-9 years old Harris technology that has a tendency to do "snarky" things.  Apparently, this decision was driven strictly by bottom line cost and as somebody else has said, "they got what they paid for".

I also got the sense that they were very rushed to get WINS into their new studios so it could be possible they are still trying to get everything wired up to provide all of the capabilities that they had in their former facility.

What I wonder about is whether or not each of the radio stations that are moving to Hudson Street have been subjected to this kind of "bottom line" thinking as well.  Surely the moguls at CBS Radio are brighter than that.  Aren't they?

Ok, I hope the teletype sound is coming back a.s.a.p. on the stream so I miss something in the background and it likes that I'm not listening to 1010 WINS ;-).
I think they feeded this stream directly from the Harris board without any processing between because lots of level problems.

I'm probably the only person trying to do this, but as of Saturday afternoon I cannot receive 1010 WINS in AM HD. Anyone else notice this? Not sure why a move in studio location should affect this.

I've often wondered how many "under 30's" could identify the TTY sound.

There are different types of TTY sounds. WINS's SFX consists of a pair of Model 15's running simultaneously; in the 1970's and early '80's, it sounded like WCBS Newsradio 88's background teletype sound was emanating from Model 28's. As for what's used by, say, KYW in Philadelphia, it sounds almost like a Model 14TP processed through a phone line. Almost all set at 368 OPM (a.k.a. "60 speed"). No two TTY machines necessarily sounded alike.
