Could these stations be in trouble?

Having looked at the recent numbers, we may want to pay attention to these stations, who have been trailing in the Arbitrons and have yet to make any traction:

WVMA/Norfolk, who just rebranded its monicker to "Now 105.3" but remains way behind Rhythmic WNVZ and Mainstream WVHT after nine months.
WRNW/Milwaukee, whose December/Holiday '12 PPMs took a hit, possibly due to Rhythmic upstart WNRG (whose parent company Saga dosen't subscribe to Arbitron) taking a bite out of not only that station, but also WXSS and R&B/Hip-Hop WKKV.
KWNW/Memphis, who yet to make any traction in that market since its launch, as Memphis tends to favor the R&B/Hip-Hop outlets.
WNFN/Nashville, still trailing, period.
KHHM/Sacramento, who at this rate, looks like they'll soon be going the way of the Kings.
KPLV/Las Vegas, whose numbers have been slipping in the last two books.
WKXJ/Chattanooga, still no traction at this rate.
WNRW/Louisville, who at this rate should probably go Rhythmic.

But keep in mind, this could change at anytime as they could improve by the next book.

KLQT/Albuquerque can't even get a 1 share.

WRGV/Pensacola has just half the share they had in FA11, around a 1.5.

WZNY/Augusta isn't doing well either, really.

There's a very common theme here - most of these stations were launched in the past couple of years by CC when they went on a CHR-launching binge. Most of these stations have stiff (sometimes heritage) competition and are running mostly Premium Choice programming, giving no compelling reason to listen over the competition. WRNW is an exception - I think they are doing a pretty good job and aren't as cookie-cutter as WVMA, WZNY, KWNW, KPLV, KLQT, WRGV, WKXJ, WNRW, etc. WHQC/Charlotte and WWPW/Atlanta are exceptions of this, however.

As far as WRNW(Milwaukee) is concerned...it could be the result of the oldies station being all Christmas. Almost every station took a hit the last book. Although the oldies station (WRIT) jumped from 9.3 to 15.3 and before that November was only a 6.5. In the past WMYX(Hot AC) always went all Chirstmas as well...they opted not to compete this year. Being that both WRNW and WRIT are owned by Clear Channel...WRNW even advertised quite a bit that WRIT went all christmas...We will have to wait and see what happens in the comming months...but I have a feeling WRNW will move up near what it was before.

How can WNFN expect to compete with a class C3 signal against a 100,000 watt class C? I understand that signal has issues, so they first need to fix that and then actually get DJs. I should check out 107.5 sometime.

Add Star 105 (WWWM)/Toledo to this list (just added to the pop panel a few months ago). Their ratings have been abysmal of late. Another Cumulus-template station which has failed to make so much as a dent in the heritage station (Clear Channel's 92.5 Kiss-FM). Word is Kiss-FM was #1 25-54 last book (country K100 is still #1 12+) and Star 105 was a distant tenth, well behind an urban station that doesn't even have full market coverage.

Wow! I had no idea that Kiss was that high in that demo. But it seems Star's already declining ratings have been made worse by the move to CHR. And with Andrew Z gone, I don't see much improvement.

The Norfolk CHR, as well as the CC CHR in Albuquerque are indeed in trouble ratings-wise, but strategically I don't see CC dumping them anytime soon

CC recently tweaked the playlist of KWNW Memphis. This Radio Now station used to lean Rhythmic, and is now much more of a balanced CHR

I-106 Nashville has a limited signal, and its signal strength is weak in major portions of Central TN.

KHHM Sacramento should dump CHR and go Dance, or Rhythmic/Dance, but that's just my opinion. They're no match for Entercom's excellent 107.9 The End

I'd love to see 93.1 in Vegas do well as a CHR, but so far it's not happening b/c they have a direct competitor with 104.3 Now, and also with Pop Leaning 98.5 KLUC (which is classified as a Rhythmic)
