Could Things Begin to Get Better at Fox?

It really seems like the owners of the station are putting in a lot of effort to make Fox 96.7/103.1 sound better. The playlist is better, there is a new morning show, schedule, and just a more organized station. Perhaps this station will begin to break into the ratings. Possibility? Opinions anyone?
______________

I agree. The variety is quite good - almost sounding a bit like JACK. It takes a little getting use to when you hear Barry Manilow right after 3 Doors Down, but I like it more & more.

Suggestions ... add more local jocks besides Bob O & John Roberts (I like them both); do more "live" DJ shows; get rid of recorded weather announcements, etc. Unfortunately, it's obvious that they'll never break completely from using ABC Networks since they save a lot of money, but at least the effort is there, and it's beginning to show. Hopefully they'll get a better rating soon.

I too wish they had local jocks. John and Bob are very good jocks and both have been in the business for many years. I also agree with the weather thing. The overall presentation sounds much better than the "Best Hits, Best Variety" era and the "Back to Back Favorites" era. Fox is an interesting moniker to chose but I guess they are just sticking with it since there has been "Fox 96.7" for many years. The "Hits" moniker won't be used any more. What is your opinion on what the station has sounded like over the years and what do you think of the name?
______________

I like the name. It's kinda catchy. I've followed the station over the last 10+ years and they have never sounded better. They had been trying somehow to find a niche over the years but never really found it. Then they would change their slogan, yet the music really didn't change much. But I think they're finally on to something. True variety is the name of the game, and getting away from playing the same songs over and over again is the only way to keep people listening.

Regarding the local jocks, it's kinda funny because I don't live far from their WGNY studio yet after regular business hours, and especially on weekends there is never a car there, so if they are supposed to be live, where's the jock's car?

Too much voicetracking and use of ABC Networks' jocks. One day, maybe, who knows. I'm listening to John Roberts right now, and I can almost guarantee he's voicetracked. Too bad! Thing is the average radio listener doesn't know the difference, so they don't care, and better yet they save lots of money. The almighty buck is killing local radio!

I'm listening overnight Sunday morning and there is this Mike Coleman guy on now...Never heard him on before...Im guessing he is local too?

I think you're right. I'm listening right now also. Did 103.1 ever had an overnight person before this? Sunrise is really trying hard, and I think they're really doing a good job.

Well, they moved ABC's Mary Talaska to overnights on weeknights and last night (actually early this morning) I wanted to listen to this new guy Mike Coleman. He sounds young and inexperienced, but I'm sure he will get better.

I am responding to someone else's post about there being no cars in the WGNY parking lot? Thats interesting because I thought it was live and local on weekends.
______________

I think they have a few more local jocks besides, Bob O and John Roberts. They now have on their website the new line-up http://www.wgnyfm.com/FOX LINEUP 13.pdf and they seem local most of the day on Sundays with Tom Morel 6-10AM, WGNY GM Bob Defelice 3-7PM and Lori G. from 7PM-12AM. The name ,I think should have been either Fox 96.7/Hits 103.1 or Hits 103.1/96.7, that way they would stiil be using the Hits name. The station is sounding a little better than a few weeks ago, but it does take a little getting used to hearing ABBA right after Alcia Keyes. I'm kind of wondering when their going to update WGNY-AM's site, because it still has it as Oldies 1220/1200 and it's been 1220/1490 since February.
