Could this be KJR-FM's future?

If you haven't been to the Wisconsin and Columbus message boards, you may want to look at a pair of Clear Channel outlets that are making a lot of noise. Better yet here's their websites:

www.973thebrew.com
www.1057thebrew.com

Any thoughts on this?

At first I thought the website URL stood for

97.3T HEBREW

An all-Jewish format? Maybe :)

But this station calls itself "Rock of the 80's". Funny, when I clicked in and saw the last 10 songs displayed, I saw "Walk Away" by James Gang (1971) and "The Boys Are Back In Town" by Thin Lizzy (1976).

Classic Rock? We got plenty of that. Maybe KJR-FM isn't playing as many hair bands but between them and KISW, KZOK and JACK there's no hole in the market for hearing 80's rock...and certainly not as a dedicated format.

We already had an 80's station here which lasted what four years? 96.5 The Point.<P ID="signature">______________

I'd be really happy if a classic rocker played LESS of

What seems at times every other song being either Stones or Led Zepplelin.

I want to hear more YES (not just Roundabout or Seen all Good people), Emerson Lake and Palmer (Not just Lucky Man or From the Beginning), Moody Blues, Styx, etc...

I do like SOME of the Hair Bands of the 80's..back when there were actually guitar players doing something instead of the revisitation of three chord artificial distortion yuk that's out there now.

But the major point is correct.
There is already a Classic Rock presence.

Though, the Playlist of the Eagle 97.7 and KRXY 94.5 is diverse down here in South Sound.

Take a look at WQBW's playlist. NOTHING like the Point.

If I'm not mistaken, they hired a new guy to program the station this year. KJR-FM's ratings are looking a LOT better than a few years ago. So it might be a while yet.

97.3 The Brew sounds like it may make history as the station with the most listeners with mullet haircuts in America. Musically, it sounds like a JACK station without the chick tunes. Lots of '80s rock and hair metal and a handful of retro-cuts tossed in. It's obviously male targeted, but I don't think it's going to take too many guys away from Tom Leykis if it ever came to Seattle.

It seems like Clear Channel is trying to create a "family friendly" format for men, which compared to what KQBZ listeners are used to hearing here in Seattle would look like a 98 pound wuss versus a NFL quarterback in a locker room towel fight
