Could this spell the end for the Beast???

I'm sensing another format flip soon at 1010.

....Well you know, it is the beginning of a new year! The big question did they can the morning show with pepper and his crew?....If so you know the end of the world ....well the beast's world is coming to a end! Good news for NFL Coaches...Pepper won't be bugging them about him being their replacement kicker for the week!!...lol

Lets all welcome the newest member of the TAN Talks radio network.

The death of Sporting News Radio has been reported many times over the years. There are several bankruptcy rumours floating around out there. On the other hand, they could be shedding expenses (like Bruno's salary and maybe others) to keep the lights on a little longer.

As for 1010, does it really matter?

Could it possibly be that the average U S sports radio listener is finally tired of Bruno? Same ol stuff day after day after day.

And I suppose if you're going to tank why not do it right after the Super Bowl?

Why do I think that somehow CBS itself is going to get involved, what with them finally taking over CSTV (whos announcers like Jonathan Coachman belong more on "sctv") .

Might they start an all sports network taking leftovers from SNR, (Brando, Spanier, etc) packaging that with their Westwood One stuff (NFL, NHL, NCAA) as well?

Come to think of it, you have a point. Perhaps his shtick is getting cumbersome, which might explain why late last year he resorted to doing a play-by-play analysis of an episode of the....Wonderpets??!!!

...or the week of even...

I don't see why they wouldn't. They have the revenue to do so. And one name you didn't mention from SNR, studio20, who's also on CBS is James Brown. Not to mention, the possibility of syndicating Mike and the Mad Dog nationally. If this were to be done, and done right may I add, I wouldn't doubt seeing the possibility of three viably legitimate national sports-talk networks, with CBS's new venture, FSR's affiliate power, and ESPN just being ESPN.

By the way, while I agree he's not a top-notch announcer, isn't Coachman sorta already on SCTV if you think about it??? ;)

It doesn't appear as though CBS has much faith in the 1010 signal. today, they will broadcast the Super Bowl on Q105.......no Sunday night at the 60s with scotty phillips??????? :(

Won't that look better on the books....should CBS follow through with a sports network?

Don't read this into a format change..just..more of a bait and switch on the ol' card....

I forgot about James Brown...then again I can't get 1010 up here...really wanted to hear Marv Albert and ----

Oh God, no. Will Ferrell in old school NBA shorts.

eyewash...need eyewash....

Westwood One has never shown the inclination to get involved in the 24/7 sports game. Even when they had a genuine night time property in Ferrell to build around and the non sports Imus (which was being used by some sports stations) in the morning.

The truth is, running a 24/7 sports operation is expensive and it is difficult to make the neccesary ad revenue when most of your major market stations will choose to remain local in drive times. That is why Sportings News has barely survived through several incarnations and mergers and the likes of Sportsfan and others litter the graveyard.

It makes sense for ESPN and Fox to continue along as the extension of their Global sports platforms. CBS is not operating on those platforms on the television side, so the need to expand that footprint into radio is not there.

Bruno, just tends to be Bruno's biggest fan. Check his quotes about his own show that they were doing things nobobdy else was doing. There's nothing original anywhere in sports talk anymore. He's good, but not as great as he thinks. Thus, he tends to overvalue himself. Fox is still on the air without him and Sporting News still has the lights on this week.
