Could this work in L.A., or anywhere?

I heart is launching a true crime 24/7 network. Its a silly question, but could a format of true crime podcasts work (on 1150am, not trying to kill off that station, just using them as an example)

Key phrase from the article:

"It is unconfirmed whether this means a streaming channel dedicated to True Crime podcasts or actual AM/FM stations."

Given that true crime podcast fans already know where to find them (on a device they always have with them), why would they switch to listening to them on an over-the-air radio station, where they lose the ability to listen on their schedule, as well as to pause and rewind to hear key elements again?

I think there's a pretty simple way of answering questions like this when talking specifically about OTA broadcast:

1) Is this programming "general interest" enough, with a large enough audience and advertiser interest to at least be self-sustaining if not profitable at least medium-term, or

2)Would this programming appeal more of a niche market or a select audience?

If the answer is "yes" to #1 above, then maybe. If the answer is "yes" to #2 above, the answer is probably no, or if you'd want to try and make a go of it, you'd most likely need to stick with a non-commerical or listener supported model.
