Could WATV be next?

Sheridan Broadcasting, which owns WATV in Birmingham, has sold its legendary Pittsburgh stations (WAMO-AM and FM) where the company is headquartered. That just leaves Sheridan with WATV and a station in Buffalo, NY. Could WATV be next on the list to be sold?

Here's the story on the Pittsburgh forum about the WAMO sale:

[EDIT-unauthorized promotion]

Who knows what's in the making. I know they will have the cash now to pay off Ebony Broadcasting now, since they made a down payment on WATV and Ebony is carrying a note. The sale price was 1.75 million. I don't think WATV is worth that amount now. They would have to sale it at a loss. I don't see anyone coming in a buying it at break even.

It's hard to imagine that Sheridan Broadcasting and AURN aren't in financial dire straits, or they wouldn't be selling their crown jewel property (WAMO 106.7) like they just did. And folks on the Pittsburgh board agree that the $9 million selling price for both 106.7 and two local AMs are cheap, probably more of a reflection of depressed station values in a crappy economy.

You really have to think WATV 900 would be affected somehow. And rambo2 is right, IF its sold, it won't fetch a million-plus price.

1.75 million? For WATV?

Geez. Don't get me wrong, I liked WATV when I lived in B'ham and listened through the static down in Shelby County, but damn, there's no way that little station should have ever been worth that much.
