Could WTVN be switching affiliations?

The Cincinnati Enquirer says that WLW will be switching back to ABC from Fox News. Will the same thing happen at WTVN? As much as I like Fox TV News, I think ABC provides a much better radio product. The switch should never have happened to begin with.

The article about WLW states that they are switching affiliations because of thier new TV partner. Is WTVN in Columbus also changing TV partners, if so, then a network affiliation change could be possible. If not why change just for the sake of change?

I'm actually surprised that more Columbus stations aren't doing a TV-Radio-Newspaper partnership. Back in the late 90's when I was ND at WLOH/Lancaster, I was close to working out a deal with Stan Sanders and NBC 4/Columbus where we would share talent/resources. Granted, I was the only one in the newsroom at the time, with the exception of interns. That deal never materialized, because we were an ONN Radio affiliate and I resigned my position to move south to Florida for family reasons. In the early 90's when I was ND at WLOH/Lancaster, we had a working agreement with the Lancaster Eagle Gazette newspaper. They sent us their stories before they were printed in the paper. Again - one man newsroom, so it definitely helped. The station that I run down here in Sarasota, FL has a working agreement with the local ABC affiliate during hurricanes. No, we won't necessairly be simulcasting, but talking with their meteorologists and reporters out in the field, "during the storm." In the 10 or so years I lived in Columbus area, we never had to worry about hurricanes!!!! Thats my 2 cents. Ryan Rafferdy

That makes no sense. WLW-T is an NBC affiliate ... why would they be switching to ABC News? But that's beside the point. ABC Radio has a better product. WTVN never should have switched in the first place.

I will like the new changes down here in Cincinnati. The conservative Fox News will move to conservative 550 WKRC, ABC back on WLW, and the kind of left-leaning CBS News will move to the liberal 1530 WCKY, and WLW reviving it's old time partnership with WLWT.

WLWT is no loger co-owned with WLW radio.... hasn't been since the 70's. WLW's TV sister station these days is a WKRC-TV, a CBS affiliate. My guess that WLW's return to ABC is either a pure programming decision or that ABC either upped their compensation and/or dropped the spot commitment to get a blowtorch like WLW back into the fold. Could WTVN follow? Maybe if ABC is aggressively trying to re-establish the lost affiliations with top-tier stations in other markets.

It was announced a few weeks back that WLW was partnering up with WLWT once again. (Yeah, I know, sounds strange, when they own a different station...)

To the best of my knowledge, albeit somewhat limited, 700WLW's switchover to ABC News was pretty much an autonomous decision for Cincinnati. If Bruce decides it's best for WTVN, something tells me he'll be discussing that with Darryl and San Antonio. But that's pure speculation on my part.

Personally, I welcome the ABC product and those classic sounders. God love 'em!

As for the WLW & WLWT partnership, as the old saying goes, two things in life are certain: death and taxes. "Change" could easily be added to that addage.

Besides, news partnerships with TV stations are only logical and help in covering the weak spots in radio. I've never agreed with a print/broadcast partnership. When I was on T-100, it was the best thing that ever happened to my department, teaming up with John & Tim. The days of being scooped by Columbus TV were over for us. On the other hand, I've never agreed with print/broadcast partnerships. They're too directional, in my opinion, and one party loses, having inherited one a few years back.
