Couldn't wait

I'm reminded of a line said in the origional Miracle on 34th Street from 1947.
"Make a buck, make a buck. Don't care what Christmas stands for, just make a buck, make a buck."

Unfortunately that is about the size of it in many circles. Christmas and the holidays has been commercialized for years and becoming even more profit centered...

P-CRAM!
Christmas music on at least 2 station before Thanksgiving. AND Sa-ra-so-ta! will have a "Tropical" parade instead as to not offend anybody.

C2K, as predicted.

Anybody know where the fork is stuck?

I'm a curmudgeon. Any all Christmas station comes off the presets in all 7 cars and the plane

I'm sorry...as a 20ish old jock, my first few gigs were "time, temp and flash cards" on air..and it did discipline me for future gigs...but how, as a 30/40/50ish veteran, do you work for Magic and Eagle without tearing your eyes, ears and vocal cords out after a year? Customer Service Associates at KMart who summon help for departments over the stores p a system have more creativity and flexibility.

Here's my annual "How I Would Play Christmas Music" programming method.

Starting Black Friday, one Christmas song every hour...next week two per hour, three the next week, four the next....Midnight Christmas Eve, all Christmas music, and then mixing in the most religious fare, until 5 am 12/26.

Happy Birthday...42 days in advance...Jesus...and thank you for allowing us the Internet so I can listen to stations other than Magic and Eagle.

Can't say I'm surprised one bit. 94.9 is always the first ones to play the Christmas music....and the last ones to stop playing the Christmas music. Kind of sad they couldn't at least wait until the first of December....or even a few days after Thanksgiving!

I don't mind holiday music, but I really tire of the same 40 or so songs/versions being trotted out every year and played to death (though apparently the masses seem to dig it). On a related note, why not add Neil Diamond's cover of Adam Sandler's "Hanukkah Song"...at least then there would be two.

Locally, I find Q105 to be the most tolerable, because they'll at least throw in lesser-known and novelty selections on occasion, and seem to have a larger Xmas library. You'll still hear much more "Little Saint Nick" than, say, Cheech And Chong's "Santa Claus And His Old Lady", but at least they mix it up now and again.

For more obscure fare I usually reload airchecks from XM Radio's "Special X-mas" (RIP) into my iPod, and stream Slacker Radio's "Dysfunctional Holiday" and SomaFM's "Xmas In Frisko". No "Christmas Shoes" guaranteed!

Never got why stations overload on Christmas music. I guess Magic is off next time I'm in Tampa. At least I'll have to what till Christmas Eve on Mix 100.7.

Christmas is the original feel good music. Everybody loves Christmas and decorating, the whole 9 yards.

The songs have happy messages and every generation and genre has their own favorite songs.

On Friday listening to Q about 8:15 Mason Dixson said they were switching to Christmas music and were Tampa Bays Christmas Music Station. It only lasted till noon and they switched back to regular programing. Not sure why they did that. Maybe they were thinking Majic would not follow?

I'm not knocking x-mas music. I like it myself, I just feel the radio stations play the same holiday music every year. Can radio stations at least switch it up a bit. Or at least not play it so early and keep it after Thanksgiving.

I mean the local AC station where I'm at which is 98.5 KTK plays the same songs in a continous 2 hour loop when they go X-Mas. Can radio stations also venture into other holidays as well I mean represent all the holidays from Thankgiving to New Years.

KTK had a separate Internet feed for their regular AC programming last year (when they went all-Christmas music)...

[HD2 feed is still blues...]

What would Cox flip magic too? I thought it was success. They have sounded the same for a decade with the same staff. I presume they are the leading AC station and why would they flip handing that audience over to Mix?

Glad you heard this, too. Q was playing Christmas songs at this time while Magic wasn't. Q was even running the Charlie Van Dyke promos stating they would be playing nothing but Christmas from now until Christmas Day. Must've forgotten they had planned the Top 105 Party songs this weekend or had some sort of communication break-down.

tragic 94.9 is playing Christmas music already. How sad

Cox Radio has format flip plans in their sleeves?

Most likely not...as Magic 94.9 goes all-Christmas every year (just seems to get earlier and earlier).

It's not a situation like last year's Cox Miami flip of 93.1 from Active Rock to all Christmas, then to Lite AC (where "All Xmas" was used as a transition from a failing format).
