Countdown shows on New Years?

I dont understand the concept of doing a "top of 2005" countdown show on New Years. Talk about boring radio. Live 105's was alright, but all the rest are pretty bad. KRTYs just runs through with regular jingles and such, and they announce which song each one was at random times. It's kind of funny to listen to. Though I do like this new guy that's been on all morning so far. He sounds like he's got some experience...but not much to work with equipment-wise.

But wouldn't it be better to just do a regular show on new years? Do people really care about countdowns? Maybe I'm just being a new years grinch...

You can write New Years'Eve off as far as a once exciting night in radio.
back when they did Top 100 countdowns, they had songs that were shelved off the air for the last 3-9 months before playing them on their postion on the countdown.
It's hard to do a countdown with extremely tight playlist that practically sound the same in December as in January 2005.
