Countdown to another Top 40 in Boston?

I think it's a little odd that NO ONE has tried to push KISS over. I read an article that showed KISS as one of the Top 10 cuming stations in the country. There are a LOT of NY, LA, Chicago stations that should out-cume KISS, but I think the lack of competition makes them WIN BIG by default. If I had $$.....

I mentioned this a few other times. If the tables were turned and another company owned a CHR with a 10 share there is a 100% chance CC would put up a competitor.

Wouldn't GM be the logical candidate? In addition to having the maximum allowable five true full-market FM signals in Boston (92.9, 96.9, 102.5, 105.7, 106.7), GM is privately held, and rumor has it, not overly leveraged. If true, then, GM, of all major group operators, is in a very good position to take a temporary hit to its bottom line in order to finance a major format flip here.

Are there enough ad dollars in this never-endingly depressed economy to support two CHRs in the market? Flipping 92.9 (most likely) or 96.9 (probably not, given that talk is a big part of FM's future) might represent only a temporary hit to the bottom line, but even a temporary hit might be too much for the beancounters to tolerate.

could we see a switch on 105.7?? bring back wvbf and go top 40?? nah too much to ask i guess!!

I would actually think CBS would be more of a choice... it would not be too difficulty to morph WBMX into an adult-CHR. That seems to be a format CBS likes now... they just flipped a station in West Palm Beach from Rock to Adult-CHR. They also own an Adult-CHR in Tampa (WSJT - Holmes Beach, FLA). It's a good play to pull some share away from WXKS-FM.

You'd have to pay Steve Callahan in Middleborough to use WVBF as a callsign. 'ROR-FM's fine to me but 'TKK is something else entirely!

???

WBMX already is an "adult CHR", just like WSJT/Tampa, KZZO/Sacramento, and a lot of other CBS Hot ACs

In other words, all of CBS's "adult CHRs" still report to the Hot AC panel - WBMX is in the same position right now as WSJT

IMHO, going after Kiss' adult end will be much harder than the younger end. To a point, WBMX goes after Kiss' adult end already. That's why it hasn't been a fair fight. As long as Kiss has Matty, Kiss is winning adults 25-54. It's the younger listeners that might think Matty is washed up.

Does most of the 25-54 demo keep their radio on Kiss 108 (rather than WBMX) when the music starts at 10 a.m.? Don't really understand why people would listen to a particular station all day just because they like the morning show...

What kind of CHR could be viable considering that 107.9 has the killer 94.5 for a flanker? Them guys got a wicked one - two punch going for themselves!

One with a deep playlist? One that's live and local 24/7? BZZZZZZT! The former grossly overestimates the public's discontent with tight playlists (statistically, there is next to none, especially on CHR stations), the latter grossly overestimates the public's ability to discern a live, local voice from a distant, voicetracked one, not to mention its disapproval of remote VT'ing even if it does find out about it.

Bottom line: Nobody's flipping anything to CHR in Boston.

The younger (advertiser-coveted) part of the demo does.
