Countdown to Ryan Seacrest on Q102

His show has already made his way onto stations (mostly Clear Channel-owned) in a lot of markets, including most of the major markets - Z100 in New York was just announced yesterday.

Q102 already simulcasts Elvis Duran's morning show out of Z100 in New York. It's a virtual no-brainer for them to put on Seacrest as well.

Will Lisa Paige "join" the morning show as a result?

B104 in Allentown already carries it as well .. so it would be on 2 stations that yyou can recieve in allentown if Q102 picks it up ?? =/ thats so lame...

What date does it start?

That's what I'd like to know. Given all the activity that I mentioned in my original post, it's a virtual lock to happen.

when are all of you music heads going to realize that all clear channel stations will eventually voice track all of their stations and being a dj is probably the worst career decision one could make.
I was in the music end of radio for years and then realized that "spoken word" formats are the way to go. Seacrest and company will be replacing dozens of formerly good jobs every week and there is nothing talent or format flips or name changes or play lists have to do with it.

How soon until WOGL replaces a live local voice with Tom Kent?

If you think Philly is immune--being market #7--the C(BS) suits
just did it in market #5 (DFW).

And I'm sure New York's CBS-FM wouldn't be far behind. I'm sure he'd fit right in for the former "mandatory live jock" over night slot of 12 midnight.

Well, Tom Kent was a pretty big part of Dallas radio on KLIF in the '70s (and others) but your point is well-taken.

(Actually he was on Wibbage for a short time too, if I correctly recall, but he was more of a "name" in Dallas.)

It's just a matter of time... it's Cost-cutting 101.

To take it a couple steps further, why not just simulcast the world's best known CHR in Philly around the clock? Hell, Clear Channel could swap a stick with Radio One and put Z100 on the 100.3 frequency in Philadelphia!

91.3 FM WLVR,the Lehigh University station have a great liner where you hear him say how he enjoys going to a spa & and the last line says "because we are sick of Ryan Seacrest too".It is very well produced & stands out very much. :)

That actually will not be a bad idea. If that happens, 100.3 will be listenable in 90% of New Jersey. It will be the same station from Connecticut to Maryland on I95.

That will be the future of radio. Companies like clearchannel will just have a big studio set up in NY or LA, inwhich 15 to 20 different radio formats take place and sent all over the country. Even the legal id/station iding could be done from HQ end, before its sent out to each station. Just split each feed for how many stations are using said format, add id's, and send out. Traffic will also be delivered from some global traffic center.

It would be sorta cool if they could get ownership nationwide of a station frequency. Well maybe not cool, but easier asfar as networking formats. Instead of havning a top40 format with some generic name so it could apply to any city, but only add its frequency to the end, there could just be z100. In a way they could sorta compete better with xm/sirius if this was the way.

That brings up an interesting question.... Anyone remember the Y107 trimmocast? WWXY/WWYY/WWZY? Country "Y107". How did that frequency work? Just how far up and down the coast could that go? What happend when you were in an area ware two 107.1's would come in at the same time? Would there be any static? How did the stations stay exactly on time?
How does this apply to both 100.3's you ask?
Well i'm thinkin if Z100 did that, how might it work in an area such as Princeton or Freehold, NJ? Especially Prinston.

Just curious. Doesn't anyone realize that the discussion in this thread pretty much encompasses everything that is wrong with the industry?

Only on a radio message board would any segment of the population actually be excited to discuss the idea of stripping markets of their heritage stations, ruining what radio historically has done best, and putting scores of workers on the streets-- all to give even MORE reach to the likes of Ryan Seacrest.

Reading phrases like "it would be sorta cool" ("sorta"?), and "not a bad idea to have one station from Connecticut to Maryland" pretty much confirm this.

Here's how it works..............it doesn't. In theory it sounds like a no-brianer, but in reality each signal still competes and interferes with each other. Just because 2 or more stations on the same channel are carrying the same format doesn't mean that those signals will smoothly run one to the next.

Ah, i was thinkin there would be no time delay, all three signals ran exactly the same thing at the same time, so there wouldn't be any signal issues.
Then again, I've checked out fox on both XM and Sirous, and they aren't at the same time...

Serving the Universe . . . From the Top of the [edit]Roxborough Antenna Farm[/edit].

And how does Ryan Semencrust help philly radio?

Let me get this straight, nationalized radio, soon a nationalized banking system...Maybe it's time for me re-read 1984...

These people realize they can get "one station" from Connecticut to Carlsbad if they subscribe to Sirius/XM in the first place...
