Counties without cable systems

Parts of every county have cable service in Michigan, even little Keweenaw County (the far southern part of the county along US-41 gets Charter from Calumet, while some other parts of Keweenaw County have their own cable system which carries local Marquette channels (WLUC, FOX UP, WBKP, WNMU, WJMN, WZMQ) alongside Detroit channels (WWJ, WDIV, WXYZ, WTVS), WUHF from Rochester NY, and CKPR from Thunder Bay ON. It's actually a decent cable system considering the remoteness of the area (no digital cable, but channels go into the 60s)

I just found one county without cable - Surry County VA (Norfolk DMA). Nothing comes up on the FCC Cable Search, or on Zap2it when I enter the ZIP codes for the county's principal towns (Claremont 23899, Dendron 23839, Surry 23883). I wonder, how do people make a living there?

like working?

well they are literally 35-40 miles from Richmond or Norfolk...so I'm sure plenty of jobs ;)

TV?
OTA or satellite

These small towns cable companies cant keep supporting if they only have 100 folks subbing

And another: Pike County GA (Atlanta DMA). Here, the local provider (Georgia Broadband) actually went out of business!

Sublette County, WY has no cable companies
Its part of the SLC DMA and there are some low powered TV translators in the area (some are still analog) to give them CBS, ABC and PBS

Somebody can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Shasta County California has no cable system. I visit friends near Redding often, and they have always relied on satellite.

Shasta County has plenty of cable setups in that county. Redding proper is Charter

Treasue County, Montana is another example
There is only 3 towns in the county and the only incorporated one (Hysham) lost its cable franchise recently (within the last year). Mid-Rivers pulled out of there.

Conejos County CO (Denver DMA). Nothing shows up on the FCC's Cable Search, but Zap2it did pull up Zen Cable in Manassa. This is/was their lineup: http://tvschedule.zap2it.com/tvlist...1141&setMyPreference=false&lineupId=CO55082:X

Costilla County CO (also Denver DMA) is another no-cable county. Bresnan used to have a franchise here, but they pulled out sometime in the last decade.

Zen Cable looks like an AT&T/Bresnan castoff because of its digital lineup. Also kind of odd that those two counties are Denver DMA despite being much closer to Colorado Springs and Albuquerque

It was a former Bresnan system:

Zen Cable is a multiple system cable operator headquartered in Alamosa, CO. The company began operations when it acquired the San Luis Valley cable systems from Bresnan Communications.

Roger Mills County OK (OKC DMA) - The FCC's Cable Search shows one system in Cheyenne owned by someone named James M. Mogg, but nothing shows up on Zap2it!
