Country #1-#2 in Gainesville

Spring, Phase One: K-Country on top, as usual, but WTRS slips into a #2 tie with Sky. (Tom Taylor mentioned it in his daily column this morning, but--as so often happens--misread the alphabetical listing of WSKY & WTRS as putting Thunder Country in third place).

Can't remember a 1-2 Country situation in awhile, though it could be because I haven't been paying attention. Used to happen in Texas all the time, IIRC.

But if they finish Spring 2011 that way, I guess it sort of confirms UF's market analysis--that, yeah, Gainesville-Ocala is a real strong Country market.

For WOGK and WTRS.

Oh, I know--they're unweighted and all that. And more importantly, no money is exchanging hands based on this stuff, right? No salespeople on the streets in G-O talking about it?

Trends are not intended to encourage or condone illegal betting activity. They are for entertainment purposes only.

;)

…and WRUF-FM is still dropping. I wonder how long they stick with country?

I guess it is easier to sell country to advertisers rather than rock but the #3 country station vs. the #1 rock station?

(all the usual disclaimers about free ratings info)

Wasn't Gator advertising for a new Morning Show a couple months back?

In addition to all the other changes at WRUF-AM / FM and WUFT-FM / TV, WUFT-FM and WUFT-TV are both promoting the new WRUF-TV coming soon to Cox Cable channel 6 in Gainesville. Can anyone confirm if the new WRUF-TV is the former LPTV WLUF-TV 10 which has been used for instructional purposes? Or is WRUF-TV a completely new channel?

Channel 6 for the last week or so has been running what looks to be NASA TV with a lot of still shots of Houston control, the space station, etc. Only small white text in the corner says WRUF-LD

No clue what "LD" is...

The program guide on Cox Cable lists "Weather, News, and Gator Sports" for all 24 hours. They have the weather radar, forecasts, and maps with samples of Rock 104.com, WRUF-FM, and 89.1 in the background most of the time. They do have some student-produced news and sports reports as well. I also saw one local commercial for a jewelry store. I checked for a top of the hour ID but they just had what That Guy mentioned, WRUF-LD.

I hate if they have done away with the old WLUF. They broadcast a lot of PBS programs at times different times than WUFT which was nice. I thought they also broadcast classes but maybe they do those online now so they don't need to broadcast them. Maybe they will broadcast some of the non-revenue sports on this new channel. I noticed that during basketball season, some of the weeknight SEC games were on Ch. 6 since none of the local stations carried them. I thought it was odd with all the commercials on what I thought was an educational channel.

The -LD suffix indicates the station is a Low Power, Digital ATSC television station as far as their licensing with the FCC.

Quick scan of various FCC data for this area indicates it's OTA PSIP (Displayed as) channel 10/actual channel 5 WRUF-LD Gainesville, FL.

According to a news release from UF yesterday:

WRUF-TV, Cox Cable Channel 6 in Gainesville and over-the-air on digital channel 10.1, will launch North Central Florida’s first weather channel today. WRUF-TV, formerly WLUF-TV, will feature city specific weather conditions, forecasts, and severe storm watches and warnings updated in real time 24-hours-a-day. The weather forecast models – exclusive to WRUF-TV – offer accurate hyper-local forecasts for cities within the broadcast viewing area as well as both coasts including tide information, water temperatures, beach conditions, storm forecasts and tropical storm updates. WRUF-TV has a network of three “skycams” that provide live and time lapse views. These steerable cameras, controlled in-house, can tilt and zoom 360 degrees to track weather conditions as they occur.

I think they are on digital ch. 5 now or will be.

I too watched a bit of WRUF-LD today, they are ID'ing as WRUF Channel 6. I saw a commercial for Gators Dockside and Electronics World. Are these "LD" stations commercial?

From a programming point of view, the edits and transitions are still very rough and audio is all over the place.

Interestingly, although some LPTV are operated non-commercially, LPTV facilities, which includes LDTV, are licensed as commercial while LPFM are licensed as non-commercial.

I'm curious if the new WRUF-TV will soon become available on the Cox Cable system in Ocala.

It's not now?

The former WLUF-TV has never been available over the Cox Cable - Ocala cable system and it isn't now, either as WRUF-TV. My understanding is that the new WRUF-TV cable coverage is currently only available on the Cox Cable - Gainesville system.
