There is a very good chance that Entercom, given all the national attention the KDND/Wee story is getting, will dump its popular End format, and replace it with its ever increasing in popularity country format, which they call "The Wolf". Of course, since 101.9 now bills itself "The Wolf", they may likely just call themselves "Country 107.9". The domain country1079.com is currently available. Do you really think Entercom stands a chance against the long-established 105.1, when even 101.9 isn't setting the 916 on fire.

And would it be a straight-up dumb move to turn heel and drop pop because of this story? They say bad publicity is better than none, but in the long term, it's for the best.

They don't need to change their established format and music. What they need are new call letters and a new name. The End took on a whole new meaning a week ago today!

I say bring back FM Talk! Opie & Anthony mornings, Kidd Chris afternoons against Don & Mike. That could be a powerhouse. Sac doesn't need another country station. If people want to hear music they can turn to satellite radio and I-pods. FM Talk is fresh and different. Yeah, it's been done, but with a weak signal and poor management. Bring back "The Magic" of Fast Fred and Charles J!

You made up that country rumor..there is no truth to it. Entercom doesn't do hot talk on FM...because they have a brain in the programming department. I think the best thing would be to move CHR to another frequency with a new name, and moved one of their established stations to 107.9.
 
I'd say they bring back K108 with a Classic Hits format, then move the Eagle to 98.5 than bring back the
legendary 97 KROY with a Rock format!!!!!!!! I remember KROY was a AOR station in the 1970's and early 80's,
Then flipped to the 97FM(KSAC) format in 1984, then flipped back to the AC formatted KROY in late 1985 then went CHR in 1986 before switching to its current classic rock format "The Eagle" in the early 1990's.

If they're successful with that format, then stick with Top 40. But if a station were to change I personally like FM Talk. I think it's all in the management. There's successful and unsuccessful FM Talkers out there. KLSX in LA does well. A lot more people listen to talk radio now. What about Sports Radio 107.9? Could that work? Go against 1140.

BTW. Kidd Chris did very well in his demo in Sac, #2 behind The Bomb. He also was successful in San Antonio and now syndicates from Philly to Pittsburgh. His show is much different now than it was during the Sacramento days. Let's just say "the handcuffs are off". I'm not one of his "circus toys". I support people like Howard Stern, O&A and Kidd Chris who are creative, original, and talented. I can turn it on and LAUGH. I'm a regular on his show, and by promoting him, I promote myself. I'm an attention whore - haha.

Actually they do: KFH-98.7 Wichita, KS, WWL FM 105.3 New Orleans, LA, WSKY 97.3 Gainesville, FL, WGVC 106.3 Greenville, SC, WEEI 103.7 Providence, RI
 
Of all the stations you mentioned, only KFH is a hot talk station. WWL & WSKY are news/talk stations, WGVC is a chick-chat station, and WEEI is a sports station.

All of you need to take the time to read the report in todays Sacramento Bee, Friday Jan, 19, 2007 in the business section D-1. Entercom intends to stay with exactly what they are doing with the station's format. The company just needs to replace the morning show as quickly as possible. The report is quite interesting!

Complete and utter fabrication. I was there Brad. I saw the numbers. You know it too.

The entire "Talk That Rocks" was actually CBS'- Pre "Free FM" failure. It didn't work. Stern lost. The midday people were failures on a large scale. O&A didn't rank top 5 in any demo. And your boy had a POINT 8 Men 18-34. Which was his supercell demo. They went for P 18-34 and ate poop.

If any of those you purport to be the best at what they do, were in fact the best at what they do, that station would still be there.

FM Talk has yet to be done properly because most corporate radio owners don't want to pay for the talent, and let them do their job.

Wasn't at one point and time KROY was rhythmic "Hot 97" in the 1990's?

When it comes to talk, who cares if it is mono or stereo.
Therefore, I support keeping talk radio on the AM band.

Respectfully, if there is a signal on FM that can only be profitable in mono mode (greater signal strength etc.) then fine, talk just might be the way to go for a specific FM situation.

In many cases, the FM that gets the talk format is a crapy signal that has been made better by eliminating the stereo broadcast.
 
yes, because 1140 is AM so if 107.9 carries the same format, everyone will go to the FM channel
What about Sports Radio 107.9? Could that work? Go against 1140.

Here's a "what if" that I know will never happen, but it would be funny.

107.9 sees the error of their ways, drops the format completely, becomes born again, and plays only Christian music. To play off the name "The End" they could call it Revelations Radio!!!
