Country Coming to Cape May County?

I guess they had enough of no ratings and no income?

I'll go dig up my 10 gallon hat and lasso ;)

I actually think it's not a bad move... they probably weren't getting anywhere with CHR, and 107.3 is a B1 signal that probably falls a bit short in Cape May... so why not....

What makes you think it's going Country? The WKOE calls have been part of a few formats.

In the summer, stations that cover more water tend to propagate further than inland stations. I was able to hear 106.7 in Egg Harbor City. And the 50000 watt Atlantic City stations which have half their coverage area over the water can cover all of New Jersey south of Route 80 strongly during tropo.

Q107 finally had to feel the squeeze with the new Kiss FM in town, sniping at the lower end (at 105.5, with perennial fave WAVY at 102.3 skimming off the top... of the target demo).

Maybe new calls and a shift to the music that was once on The Buzz? BTW, Cat Country comes in quite well in Cape MAYYYYY County.

But.... but.... Q107 was doing so well in the Salisbury/Ocean City, MD market! 3 straight books with a 0.5!

(Seriously... they showed up. Kinda funny)

Is 106.7 still airing Top 40 right now?

WDOX was pulling ratings substantially better and I'm sure they had a stronger advertising presence than Q 107. They were getting the beer advertising dollars, something that a kiddie-leaning Top 40 station sorely lacks. My suggestion to Coastal Broadcasting would be to bring WDOX back and give it the classic approach - no DJs and plenty of classic quotes with the station IDs, and the best alternative rock anywhere. With WJSE falling to its lowest ratings yet and WZXL as stale as ever, now is the time for WDOX to return.

What about a return of The Shore? I always liked that station.

I could see a return of DOX, especially if it has more of a "Radio 104.5" approach (i.e.: leaning heavily on recurrents and Rock of the 90's). However, without the classic calls, DOX lives on in hyperspace, if not our memories.

WDOX-FM could still be used.

97.3 WBSS-FM shared with an AM in Florida.

There is a WCMC-FM someplace too.

I would think WKOE was chosen for a reason, yes, there
were other formats with those call letters on 106.3 in
Ocean City ... BUT ... name the ONLY format that actually
SAID the call letters other than the Legal ID.

Anyone remember Joy 105.5 WBNJ?

I can get 106.7 crystal clear from here in Millsboro, Delaware straight through to Easton Maryland on my commute to work. So your looking at a strong local like signal from Delaware Bay over to near the Chesapeake Bay. A "Radio 104.5" approach would be good to hear in these parts, but as one poster said "The Shore" format that KOE had would be nice to hear. My bet would be on Country though. So add that to the long list of Country in the area...."WPUR", WXJN (Cat Country in Lewes), Froggy 99.9, WDSD(Wilmington), 100.9 in Hurlock, MD. Wow, just what the area needs, another Country format. Interesting none the less.

Not taking anything away from DOX ('cause they were great)... but has anyone bothered to take a listen to JSE lately? The Ace is gone and they are doing pretty much what you're wanting from DOX... I know the ratings sucked in the last book, but I think that's what caused the change....

Is 106.7 going from the 4th CHR (with Philadelphia Soul football?) in the area to the 4th country station in the area on Labor Day? Wherever you can get 106.7, you can get three other country stations: WPUR in Atlantic City, 105.9 WXJN from right across the bay, and the 50kw flamethrower of 99.9 WWFG/Ocean City, MD. WWFG pulls almost a 2.0 in Cape May County sometimes, good enough for an occasional 0.4 or 0.6 in the Atlantic City book, so one could assume country on 106.7 would pull something in that range (or exactly what it's doing now).

What do you do with the smallest commercial FM signal in the state? WCMC is very popular in Cape May County - dare I suggest standards or a "lounge" format?

The WKOE calls haven't been used on the air (as a name or positioner) since 1998. Interesting move on Coastal's part. WKOE was only blundered once an hour from 1998 until 106.3 moved.

I was able to hear 106.7 in Egg Harbor City.

And this morning in Mays Landing, 106.7 was WLTW/New York. And this afternoon it was splatter from 106.5/Bass River.

Of course, all of this speculation could be funny if it turns out Coastal grabbed WKOE simply because WSJQ was too close to the WSNQ call sign on 105.5. :)
