Country Crossover Music on Local A/C Stations

Do suburban A/C stations such as WHUD play more country crossover tunes than the ones based in New York?
The country superstar Kenny Chesney puts out a lot of songs that would fit well on an A/C station.
This morning while tuning around, I heard him on one in this area for the first time. WHUD aired his current hit, Somewhere With You.
I've never heard him played in New York. I am curious to know whether his music is ever heard on WLTW, WWFS or any other local station.

I've heard Taylor Swift on several NYC stations including WPLJ and WLTW. I've also heard Lady Antebellum's "Need You Now" on both of these stations. I can't recall hearing any other country artists though.

This is just a general observation, not scientific by any means. WHUD tends to be a more "adventurous" AC than their NYC brethren. They're more likely to take chances on that type of tune, along with the likes of more "Triple-A-ish" kind of artists. I just checked the "last songs played" lists for Fresh & Lite and the only country crossovers I saw were of the older variety, such as Carrie Underwood, LeAnn Rimes, Shania Twain, Rascal Flatts & the aforementioned Lady Antebellum & Taylor Swift. I'll keep an ear out for it, maybe he'll break through, a la Keith Urban's "You'll Think Of Me" in 2004.

Faith Hill used to get a respectable amount of airplay, too - on AC as well as regular country radio... perhaps the industry hasn't forgiven her for her reaction to Carrie Underwood beating her at some awards show for best female artist ("WWWWHAT??!!")... ::)

I believe this is the first time his label has actually promoted a song for non-country airplay. I expect they'll also release the current Grace Potter duet once it's completed its country run. These things don't happen by accident. Kenny is playing at Giants Stadium in August, and radio airplay would help ticket sales.

Taylor Swift has been working her music at pop radio. The next Rascal Flatts single will be their duet with Natasha Bedingfield. That sounds ripe for pop airplay. The new Lady A single is perfect. Cross format airplay is good for labels and good for artists. That's why they do it. It's bad for country radio, because it takes away an exclusive. But it opens a spot in the playlist for someone else, and there are no shortage of artists who'd be willing to give country radio an exclusive.

WLTW is playing the Jason Aldean/Kelly Clarkson duet. Isn't it time for a country station here??????

WLTW is New York's country station (by default).
