Country DX (this morning!)

Cat Country 107.3 was blasting into Bergen County this morning! (DX) The atmosphere was just right. It was almost like we had our own country station again!!!

107.3 WPUR from Atlantic City is very frequent DX into central and northern NJ during the summer and early fall. Some weeks I've been able to pick them up every morning on the way to work on my car radio here in Somerset County.

And when 107.3 is coming in strong, also look out for the country station "Froggy 99.9" from Ocean City, Maryland. When the DX is hot, they come in strong enough to drown out 99.9 The Hawk (WODE) from Easton/Allentown, PA.

No not 1500 (which is heard every night here in Bergen County) but WTOP-FM 107.7 Warrenton, Va......I use 107.7 for XM and I heard WTOP-FM briefly right before my SkiFi2's transmitter kicked in.....So yes there was a pretty decent tropo opening from the south.

"Mix 107.3" from DC

Today around 1:00 PM I heard Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car" playing on 107.3 FM on my car radio... at first I thought Cat Country had decided to expand their playlist a bit (and that song definitely would fit in with a Country format, I think!) but it turned out I was hearing "Mix 107.3", an AC station from Washington, DC.

And all the NYC FM stations had unusually poor reception this morning, so there was definitely some DX activity going on.

Re: "Mix 107.3" from DC

Cat Country listeners and salespeople complained
about it wiping us out in parts of Cumberland County,
but the people in Long Island called and said we
were coming in well.

A few years ago I remember 97.5 WALK-FM from Long Island completely wiping out WPST (then on 97.5) here in Somerset County. That was some good strong DX, because I normally get full-quieting reception of 97.5 ex-WPST-now-WTHK.

I was driving through lower Luzerne County/northern Schuykill County (PA) yesterday (10/5), and WPUR was coming in loud and clear.

That has happened up here (although very rare) with the following stations that have crystal clear reception in North Central Bergen County.

93.5 WRTN - Replaced by WZBH Georgetown, DE
100.7 WHUD - Replaced by WZXL Wildwood, NJ
103.9 WFAS-FM - Replaced by WRCN Riverhead, NY
