Country in Columbia

Just got a look at some numbers for Columbia. The interesting thing about this is, Double O's two stations combined walloped WCOS, but 94.3 (Classic Country) was the big winner of the two, and almost all of their spike were men. So it will be interesting to see if that holds. I can't fathom that the WCOS book is a real number. Could they really be 8th or 9th in the money demos? I know they are down, but I have to believe they will be back up in the next book.

As many of you know, it takes time and patience to even begin to erode a Heritage country station's audience. Double O's properties, I believe are finally starting to do that. WCOS may rebound a bit next book because this almost looks like a fluke. However, the signs of erosion are there. This is what happened in Charlotte and Greenville. Isn't it interesting that the station that seems to be causing the most damage to WOCS isn't the one with the "big" personality in the morning(Roper) but the "other" one?

It is actually refresing to hear 94.3 instead of Roper. It is the breath of fresh air that country radio in Columbia needed.

I'm gone for the day after this, my 400th post, but the 94.3 FM situation sounds encouraging. I don't know if this station is in the same location as the 94.3 FM station I used to hear south of Monroe, but any success for a classic country station makes me feel good. Greensboro has one with a lousy signal that did well but has fallen somewhat.

Hey Chimp... The old 94.3 you are thinking about was WPUB in Camden... It moved to 102.7 in Oct of 97 until DoubleO signed on the classic country fotmat in Oct of 2004... CC1

You're the first person here to call me Chimp. It only took a few weeks on thewb.com.

Yeah, I remember it being WPUB and moving to 102.7. Later I heard that WRHM in Rock Hill was on 107.1 and 94.3 and I thought that's what they had done. Later I realized what I was hearing was the UNC-Charlotte student station, but I don't know how they ended up being a translator for WRHM. I was trying to hear WMUU 94.5 in Greenville.
