Country in Miami

Considering this is a market that can't support a rock station as programmers have finally realized, is country the next format to go? Numbers seem to point in that direction.

Yeah, and James Crystal doesn't seem to be doing much with 1400. Its just music and spots, with an occasional liner. The music is good, but it needs some personality. If 99.9 and WIRK can't survive, how can a 1kw AM?

There are parts of Dade County where WKIS's signal is not all that great. Remember, WKIS' is licensed to Boca. Does anyone think that a Country station with a Dade signal might get better ratings?

Country in SoFlo could be facing the same demo issues as in New York. IMHO, most of the country listeners in the area live well north of Miami, areas 99.9 should be able to serve well being licensed to Boca. A Miami-based country station would have the same issues as one in Manhattan. Country listeners tend not to live in Manhattan or Miami. :)

Keep in mind that numbers don't matter if you can make money. Beasley has a lot of heritage in the country format. My bet is regardless of the numbers (and they're similar to what they're getting with country in Las Vegas), they'll stay with the format.

Keep in mind too that Country has got to be better than another also run format. Right now there are other FM stations in south Florida that are struggling.

Their signal is equal to the the top fourteen other commercial FM signals in the market and it is substantially better than the remaining three (as for Broward County coverage).

Remember, parts of southern Dade are covered by WCTH/Thunder Country 100.3, out of Plantation Key. The signal is not great in Miami proper, but it is at least another Country option.
