Country in Orlando???

Somebody said there was "country" in Orlando? Where???

Talk to any Nashville veteran and you will hear the same story..."country" music today is PURE GARBAGE.

Talk to any country music veteran in 1980 and he would have said the same thing. There is some good music being made these days... you just have to look for it. ;)

So, there are plenty of people who think hip hop is garbage yet rhythmic and urban stations do very well.

Natonally, the country format is thriving. Ironically, if the critics of today's country put together a format of music they approve of, the current country format they look down on would attract a much larger audiene, especially in attractive advertising demos.

I'm a Nashville veteran (since 1975)...still working on-air (country) in Nashville...
and I feel the same about your post: it is pure garbage.
CHR stations don't play Beatles tunes anymore, either...it's just normal growth and change.
You don;t have to like it...many don't...but "pure garbage"? Lighten up, Francis.

Speaking of country music, I never understood why WPCV never marketed itself to Orlando. I know that they want to be the big fish in a small market (Lakeland), but the station has a great sound and a manageable signal through much of the Orlando area...

Thanks for the link, Bryon. I just can't imagine that WPCV is fulfilling its ad revenue potential by not at least peripherally targeting Orlando. Remember when WA1A used to do this back in the mid-1990s (their legal ID used to include Melbourne, Cocoa Beach, and Orlando)?

For the moment, it sure would be a pain in the ass to work out of the Lakeland Hall office and trying to sell towards Orlando clients, when it came to site vists anyhow. When it comes to having a satellite office, the overhead is twice as much... or probably more depending on how much Orlando office space costs in comparison to something in Lakeland. I'm pretty sure it just wasn't as profitable to market into Orlando. WPCV pretty much owns the FM dial in Lakeland from what I remember.
