Well the real format finally launched! I noticed this morning while tuning down the dial to 720. Anyone know when this launched? The audio sounds a little better now too.

It launched on August 8. I love the music they play. It will be interesting to see what kind of audience they can get or not being on a low power AM.

Yeah this would be a good one to add to KCYE HD-2. I've heard alot good songs the few hours I've been listening.

They need to focus on Late 70s and 80s country. The PD at 790 should take a listen to 1350 The Toad out of Riverside /San Bernardino to get some Ideas. I think 1350 uses Jones Radio Classic Country service and it sounds great. Is it just me because for some odd reason I think Classic Country sounds better on AM than FM.

As long as they don't play 90s country. FM country stations still play a ton of 90s product. Although I am personally burned out on a lot of it, it tests well so I understand why they play it.

KBET playing 90s songs from artists like Alan Jackson (even if he has a traditional sound) would be the same as KKLZ playing 80s music from artists like Journey and John Mellencamp (which they do play) The music is saturated and can be heard elsewhere,so it takes away from the uniqueness of the station and ruins the listening experience.

Classic country sounds fine on AM, but I would never go to AM to hear what's already available on FM.

Which Fm station plays Classic Country?

KWNR-HD2 plays classic country (does anybody listen to HD?) and Country Chuck's Sunday shows on KWNR.

If COUNTRY LEGENDS was on FM I think it would be the #1 country station for the first book or two before some burn set it. It would probably take away some of KWNRs upper end.

But since it's a fairly poor signal AM station in a bad AM market I don't think it will impact the FM country share too much. Still I think it was a good format choice for Beasley and it fills a niche. We didn't need another AM with third rate syndicated talk and infomercials for magical pills and potions.

On FM, Classic Country would do well at first 12+ but have poor demos. But after a couple of books it would drop considerably, unless they started playing some currents. I don't think there's ever been a successful country station that didn't play currents. There have been lots of attempts at country oldies, but they never seem to last very long.

On AM, I wonder if it will even show in the ratings. In Memphis WMC-AM (which was the country station there in the 70s and 80s) switched to classic country a year or two ago. They have a much better signal than KBET, but only in a good book do they get a one share, usually it's below that.

I would expect Beasley to start running some of the half-hour infomercials at odd times on KBET. Eventually, someone will come along wanting to buy some hours for their talk show. Give it a few years, and it will probably sound somewhat like the old KDWN, but maybe with classic country during the unsold time.
