Country Legends 943 is back?

Personally I am quite happy to see Country Legends return. I think if they had not been competing with 92.1, I believe they could have competed better with WCOS. I just hope they have good announcing staff or just leave it running like it is now and I will be happy. This is a refreshing change from the same old rotation WCOS has been feeding us.

om/pd/md Marty Hall says the station will feature hits from teh '70's through the early '90's with a nice dose of '60's as well adding "people kept telling us they loved us as Country and we listened" Hall says wwnq's on air line up is still being finalized....

You think they would have listened 3 years ago when "Flashback" didnt work and it actually had higher ratings then NEW 92.

They need to just turn the lights off and walk away.

It's like our "radio" writer in our newspaper. The guy usually writes about banks and other stuff, but they put him in for radio articles and it is usually a week behind here at least, sometimes more, and he gets simple things wrong, like saying Magic is at 107.5 FM. There is no 107.5 in Charleston. Magic is at 107.3.

Country Legends 98.3 in the Greensboro market played the 60s through the 80s but there were a few 50s tunes like "Sixteen Tons" and even Hank Sr. There wasn't a lot of 60s music and most of it was leftover from the station's standards format--Jim reeves, Patsy Cline, Eddy arnold, Elvis, etc.

I'm glad to hear this is happening.

My question is: What is going to be different this time? They changed formats to increase ratings and revenue, I assume. Now they're content with simply going back to what they had or.... do they expect a different result? And how are they going to achieve a different result?

Al, while I am no country music expert, it seems to my ears that this version of Country Legends skews even older than the last one.

This stuff is horrible! But of course Tim Miller thinks he can do anything. it's obvious how 92.1 rose in the ratings and is now falling as everyone predicted. I'm sure Tim will probably host a morning show on each station now since he is such a wanted personality and his legions of adoring fans want all the Tim Miller they can get.... thats why legends was so lowely rated when he was on there before, and then of course the midlands LEADER on morning shows on WACH where his millions of fans watched every morning. Oh wait... those 3 things are of the lowest rated things on TV & Radio. My bad!

and 943theriver.com still says that the "All New Q94.3 is coming soon"
Either they need to update this or they're still trying to really throwing us off :p

Did the new Country Legends get it's own website yet...

I saw a graphic on WACH FOX News at 10, I'm pretty sure it was just night before last, that read "94.3 The River" and "Carolina 92.1."

I knew that the Q94 format was not real because they didn't have a real logo in the first place.

I am not a country fan, but I think Country Legends 94.3 will have short success again, but I bet you in two or three years it will be history. Would it make sense if 94.3 just do a "everything" country format to better challenge WCOS-FM than the country legends format? I just don't see WCOS-FM losing any ground and I would be scared if I was Clear Channel.

I know top-40 or Hot AC would have cost a lot of money for 94.3 ownership. As we know before, their ownership is just too cheap to do a CHR or Hot AC format.

As I drove through Columbia yesterday and heard 94.3, while it is always nice to hear older country music in my opinion, I do feel this station needs some work. I am big on imaging, liners, jingles, phoners, etc., you know, the works... and for one, this station lacks that... If I wanted to hear song after song with just a few liners/no jingles, and such--then I will go to my iPod/iPhone. This station had a few good hits for the classic country fan, but please, add some better sound processing, more liners and imaging, and their are several companies out there that can make jingles to go with a classic country format. It just sounds boring. I'd surely not want to invest my advertising money into this station just because it sounds boring.

It is very acheivable to have a non-boring classic country station, but it takes time... you know like time to sit down and actually be live and local, time to actually sit down and write some actual good imaging liners, time to actually program the playlist rather than pressing a button to automate and walk away, time to actually connect with the listeners, especially your P1 listeners.

Based on what I heard while in Columbia, then I would say that what you all say about this guy who owns this station, must be somewhat accurate because this station just sounds very "hands-off"!

Here's a start, Country Legends 94.3 PD/GM/Imaging Guy, get a VO guy, come up with some liners like "Playing classic country so good, it'll make your grandma slap his grandma, we're Columbia's home for Classic Country, Country Legends 94.3" or "From Harbison Blvd. to Williams-Brice Stadium, and even that old man fixing his car on Two Notch Rd., we're the Capital City's home for all things country, Country Legends 94.3"... WOW THAT TOOK 3 MINUTES FOR ME TO COME UP WITH! WHY CAN'T YOU?

Also, TM Century has a great jingle package that stations like Eagle 92.9 in Florence, and 96-9 The Kat uses, you pay monthly for 18 months, get new jingles every month, come up with a good tag line like "The Capital Cities Classic Country Station, Country Legends 94.3"

Thank you, and this is all free of charge!

PS- I'd like to have a copy of those Q94 jingles from the Greenwood station as I was a huge Q94 fan while it lasted... Hint however, next time when you stunt, don't take the Q94 Top of the Hour and splice it with the "Columbia" jingle you had from IQ Beats for you New 92 package... I knew you weren't Top 40 when I heard how poorly you executed your Top of the Hour Jingle for your short stint as a Top 40... Thanks, again...

ROFLMAO...... Tim Miller is ******... he always thinks his ideas are the best and from what I can tell, the owners seem to think he has the midas touch. They should have looked at his previous ratings when he was on this channel, then on WACH FOX news now back to these stations.

Country Legends 98.3 in Greensboro, NC (now Spanish) had a great voice guy, even though there were no DJs most of the time and the afternoon DJ either retired or moved to mornings.

"We're Thieves! We stole our playlist from the Country Music Hall of Fame!"

"If you were stranded on a desert island with a CD player and thousands of CDs, these are the ones you'd bring."

"If there was anything better than country legends, we'd play 'em. But there ain't! So we won't! End of discussion." (A co-owned station in Charlotte says pretty much the same thing with better grammar about the big bands and related music)

"We're the answer to the question, 'Whatever happened to Country Legends 98.3?'"

"We play the most classic country music in the Triad! (record gets scratched) Uh, wait, a minute. We play the ONLY classic country music in the Triad."
