Country Legends - Eagle 104.3

So, when did this station flip and what did they flip from? I'm typically out of range and don't remember the previous format...I happened to scan by 104.3 yesterday heading up to the Roan Mountain summit from the Tennessee side. I parked alongside Highway 143 about 2 miles from the top to savor the reception before heading back into NC. I also noticed the absence of "stereo" when listening to 104.3 yesterday.
This may be a winning format since classic country moved from 640 to the inferior signal of 1320.

WEYE used to be a christian format before being bought by radio consultant Alan Sneed (used to be the consultant for Holston Valley Broadcasting on WTFM and WRZK). After the purchase, Sneed went into a LMA agreement with HVBC to run it as an CHR/Rhythmic/Urban as Hot 104. This took place in Spring, 2005. By last year, the LMA was dissolved and Sneed took over operation of the station with former WTFM PD David DeFranzo serving as the Operations Manager and the Programmer.
I am not sure why they switched to the Classic Country. I guess they weren't happy with the numbers as they were not great. Late last year, WEYE went to the classic country format and the numbers did go up in the last book. If I had to take an educated guess, I would say they will get a bump in their numbers with Citadel moving the classic country format to 1320 and a low-power nighttime station. If anything, I would say the numbers for the Eagle will go up after dark.
All-in-all, I think this was a good move for Sneed (going to classic county on 104.3) and a good move for Citadel (going all-sports on 640). People who like sports have a station with a strong AM signal now and the folks who like classic country now have a FM station. I really think it's win-win-win for everyone. Win for Sneed, Win for Citadel and Win for the listeners.
