"Country" Music Awards(My Butt)

I just watched the CMA awards...If that's country I'm the Pope...This years Hall of Fame inductees Tom T Hall,Emmylou Harris,The Statler Brothers and Pops Stoneman.
Let's examine shall we..between these four inductees 19 #1 songs,43 Top 5 songs,
and 81 Top 10 songs not to mention Tom T Hall is one of the greatest American song writers ever and Emmylou Harris is one of the most important women ever in music. The Statlers are in the top 5 for record sales for a group in Country Music history. Total time spent talking about their Hall of Fame induction 43 seconds..
Kid Rock(who I like) spent 3 times the amount of time on the CMA's than the inductees did. There is something very wrong with that in my opinion...Thank you
Bear for keeping "Country" Alive in Eastern NC....I know, not the typical radio subject
but it speaks volumes about the mindset of some in charge in the "Country" music industry.

I think I have heard that Kid Rock summertime song on every station on the dial, even a couple of news-talkers.
At least it seems like...

I agree on the Kid Rock deal...but I did like Darius Rucker's performance. Also, what the heck was Martina wearing??? And I'm sorry, but Taylor Swift may sound great in the studio, but every live performance I've heard from her absolutely stinks.

I did, too..and even tho Carrie Underwood butchered his name, calling him "Darius Rudker", I've still fallen into deep lust with her.

As part of a captive audience I watched part of the CMA's last night. Not normally something I would do. The show reminded me of why Yokel-TV isn't on my fav's.

Seems all you need to be a "country" star (male variety) these days is a big belt buckle and stupid hat....and, oh yeah, an undefined 'country' accent. The music was all over the map. Couldn't tell "country" without a program.

The number of repeat performers tells me there is a deep lack of new talent in this genre. Based on last night's show I understand why.

I am not a bragger but I have been a huge country music fan since I knew what music was..I can rattle off stupid trivia, chart positions songs and artist..I probably have one of the largest country music libraries in the state and up until recently I have been proud of the music.I'm sorry... but 80% of what is on country radio today is pure monkey crap. Now more than ever country needs to get back to basics and recapture its identity...Its as bad as its ever been..It is style over substance at its worst..3/4 of these new artist should be beaten to death with a Buck Owens 8 track...The Nashville promotion machine has sunk to new lows to polish a turd......

Re: "Country" Music Awards

While growing up, i never listened extensively to "Country" music, but keep in
mind quite a few songs have crossed over to the pop charts, but for the most
part, the roots go back a long way, and among those who i caught here and
there will always be etched in the minds of music lovers, and i agree with
Allen about the "Bear", if you looked at their ratings in the last few books,
i can see why they tune in, today's country, with the exception of a few
songs in recent years, is not what it use to be, and as for the Country Music
Association, why did they spend only 43 seconds to honor artists who have
made a large contribution instead of, maybe, 20 minutes?

Is it me or have the last 4 or 5 shows sounded BAD! I mean the audio quality was awful! I've been in country radio for 25 years and always have looked forward to the CMA's. Like Allen I think country music has lost it's way. God Bless George Strait, Alan Jackson, Paisley, for keepin it real!

Sex sells! The country music industry has gone to that policy. Too Bad!

Oh, btw, I cancelled my CMA membership years ago!

Firecop,
Let's buy a station and take it classic country..I think the market could support another one.Hey man rub your neck and write em' a check.......With your genius and my averageness
we could do something....At last count I could contribute 25,000 songs or so...

And I've got the technical know-how to make the studios work. Up to the transmitter input at least. And a shift on-air too would be cool.

And I remember when the show was half the length and actually gave out awards, and the Hall of fame inductees got a decent biography too. And I think they got to say thank you.

Nice of them to mention Jerry Reed. ::)

My country station plays Jerry Reed (I heard "When You're Hot, You're Hot" yesterday), Tom T. Hall and the Statlers.

I taped it and fast-forwarded through all the performances except The Eagles. I kind of like them.

I listened to a little of someone I believe to have been Josh Turner.

For reasons I don't understand, I watched all of the American Awards. I shouldn't put the word "music" in the middle because I don't see how anyone could call hardly any of it music.

As for performances, country was left out. Taylor Swift sang, but if I had never heard of her and based my opinion of what her music was based entirely on the performance and not on the introduction, nothing about it would have suggested to me that it was country. A couple of other songs were just as country but I don't think they were considered country because of who sang them.

I just realized I have a second tape that I haven't heard, one that ran out. There may be parts of the show that were worth seeing after all.

Paisley is borderline and even Alan was attacked for "Good Time" on this site. I liked it, though. It was on a "Real Country" affiliate I heard in the mountains.
