Country on 99.5?

Is it just me, or are there a ridiculous amount of big market country music stations on 99.5? There's...

WKLB (Boston)
WUSN (Chicago)
WYCD (Detroit)
KPLX (Dallas-Ft. Worth)
WQYK (Tampa)
WGAR (Cleveland)
KIIM (Tucson)
KWJJ (Portland, OR)

... along with a lot of smaller markets as well. Any reason for this, or just an odd coincidence?

I'm sure that if I had the time to do research, I could find specific formats that happen to be on the same frequency in multiple markets.

It's a coincidence, but hardly "odd".
______________

It could also be on 99.5 WBAI in New York City, if Pacifica was ever interested in selling.

I also noticed that more than a few country stations were on 99.5

Also: Cleveland-Boston parallels:

AM 850 Sports (WEEI/WKNR)
FM 99.5 Country (WKLB/WGAR)
AM 1260 Radio Disney (WMKI/WWMK)
FM 105.7 Oldies/classic rock (WROR/WMJI--ok, maybe a stretch her)
FM 100.7 rock (WZLX/WMMS)
FM 89.7 public radio (WGBH/WKSU(

With only 100 FM channels and thousands of FM stations, it's bound to happen. I suspect you'll find the same thing if you pick AC for example.

Wow How many Radio Disney affiliates are at 1260 AM? WSDZ in St. Louis is also 1260.

Just the three (Boston, Cleveland, St. Louis) as far as I can tell. Interestingly (or not), there are more RD affiliates on 1260 than on any other single frequency on the AM band (3). Ten other frequencies have 2. There are no RD affiliates anywhere between 690 and 900. For a list of Radio Disney affiliates (I make no guarantee of completeness or accuracy), see: http://www.am-dx.com/lists.htm at AM-DX.com.

i seem to notice alot of classic rock stations between 105.5 and 106.5, right here in this area we have:
WVNA 105.5 Muscle Shoals AL
WNRQ 105.9 Nashville TN
WRTR 105.9 Tuscaloosa AL
WTAK 106.1 Huntsville AL
W293AH 106.5 (WTAK) Huntsville AL
WSKZ 106.5 Chattanooga TN

I was going by the list provided in the link in my post above. Going back and looking a little closer, it appears that it hasn't been updated in over a year. Another "unofficial" list with a similar result can be seen at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radio_Disney (believed accurate as of summer 2004), and in fact RD's official website ( http://radio.disney.go.com/ ) shows none of its 5 affiliates in CA as being within the range I cited. Is it a big deal? No... just another rather pointless observation which is the basis for this entire thread. BTW, KFMB 760 San Diego is the only station on that frequency in CA, and judging by their website at http://www.760kfmb.com they are most certainly not a Disney affiliate.

ABC O&O KDIS/710 in Los Angeles flipped call letters and format with sister KSPN/1110 close to three years ago. Perhaps that was what you recalled?
______________

"Cool" stations on 104.1 FM

I used to think it interesting that several cities had what I felt were relatively "cool" stations on 104.1 FM.

To wit, KRBE Houston, WBCN Boston and (once upon a time, not so long ago) Washington, DC-MD-VA, outlet WWZZ Z104, back in its mid-to-late 1990s CHR days. And, I seem to recall an alternative outlet on this frequency in Hartford, CT, too... And I expect I may be forgetting a few as well.
