Country on Variety Hits?

Just wondering if any Jack/Sam/John Doe stations have thrown any country songs - classic or even current - in their Variety Hits format. Keep in mind that Gretchen Wilson's "Redneck Woman" was on a "NOW That's What I Call Music" compilation last year... Stranger things have happened...
______________

Yeah, I know, I have that CD!

I think that songs like that one are country songs that break the barrier. I remember a few years ago when Leann Rimes and Shanya were crossing over.
But as far as country on Jack, I believe they have a country version with a different name that does the same thing. Country as a whole may not have worked into their formula. But I'm sure CJ can come on here and give us the whole scoop on that...

Not a full-time Jack, but Mix 107.7 Dayton's "Whenever Weekend" plays "Independence Day" by Shania Twain.

I'm sorry... shouldn't that be Martina McBride?

"M-Mac", by the way, is another successful country crossover artist. A few of her country hits from her recent album have gotten airplay on WLTW/Lite-FM.
______________

Nine FM in Chicago (WRZA, WKIE, WDEK) plays some country. Garth Brooks, Gretchen Wilson, Toby Keith, Kenny Chesney etc. Not regularly but you will hear your occational country ttack.

Depends on the market. I wouldn't be surprised if WCBS or Max in SF throw a bunch of crossover country hits in the mix because nobody else in their market is playing them. Southern/Midwestern Variety Hits stations will play it because the songs are big across the board in their markets. In a market with a strong country station that fills the need for the music, you probably won't hear it much.

Same goes for any genre. Jack-Salt Lake City seems more rhythmic/urban than the rest of its kin, which is likely because that's an underserved niche there.

Actually SLC already has a Rhythmic Top40: KUUU(U92). And it does very well in the ratings there, even beating Mainstream Top40 rival KZHT.

Perhaps there would be room for a second and Jack is exploiting that. It does stand out among all the other Variety Hits stations that stream. Haven't heard much of anything with a beat from the rest at all. . .

I have not heard any on Mike in Boston.

Not exactly country, but pop-country for Ben in Philly--Faith Hill and Shania Twain are both on there. Not nearly enough in my opinion, but I'll take what I can get. Now Redneck Woman---THAT would be some good stuff. Hey, if Achy Breaky Heart could be a hit....
