Country ratings down in several markets

I noticed that in the Summer ratings released so far Country is either down or stable. We'll have to see if this trend continues as more markets roll out. If this pattern persists do you have any theories on why? Do you think that the current music product is strong?

Wow - he's right. Outside of modest increases in Baltimore and Hartford, most country stations are flat or down. Perhaps it's a coincidence. And to be fair, only a fraction of the books have been released to date. To be fair, I think we should wait until the second week of November to figure out whether or not country music is in trouble.

could it be that there is nothing really interesting out those books to keep people listening there... Most places outside the south and midwest, country is sometimes considered a alternative (or yallternative) to A/C compared to the south where most people was raised on it....

where I've seen it drop is places that are not typical historic country fan bases or so much or a transplanted population to turn the market around in my opinion... I could be wrong

For 10 years country music has been mixed with other types of music to make big money which I have said from the beginning was following a current fad. Well as I also said fads in the music business don't last long, the house of cards that the big music companies built from this mix to make big money is starting to fall under it's own weight. You may see a resurge in the drop off but with out a change in the way country music is headed it will drop off.

The Country music of today isn't like it was, when I was growing up.  Back in the 70s and early 80s Country had a different sound and appeal to it.

When I surf by these "Country" video channels, all I see is Country trying to be something that it isn't.

(An example includes)
A guitar player for Ms. Lambert sporting a moehawk.
Now what's Country about that?

I also find it very strange that the 'Pop and Rock" singers are now crossing over into the Country field, by the truckload.

(Bon Jovi, Robert Plant, John Mellencap, Sheryl Crow, Kid Rock and Actor Jamie Foxx are some great examples) (Saw that last one, on a recent Awards program, while surfing by CMT)

I just don't get that one.  Are they trying to keep Country in existence?  If so, they're not doing a great job.

I'm not impressed with this "Modern" Country and still wonder why so much fascination with it.

This "New" Country is not for me.  I'd rather watch Midwest Country, on RFD TV, when I've got the craving for some. The musicians they spotlight, will never win an award but their talents simply amaze me and I applaude them for keeping it real.
