Country stations in the Lexington area

I live in the Lexington area and am a fan of classic Country music. I listen to the Coyote out of Richmond because they play a pretty good mix of classic with current Country, and they have a classic program on Friday nights. Does anyone have any opinions on this station versus the two Country stations in Lex. (Bull and Bear)

Although I am not a big fan of classic country, I have to say that 100.7 The Coyote is the best country music station in the metro area. 92.9 The Bear is in 2nd place for me because they are pretty good too. One thing I wish for with 100.7 is that they had a better coverage area. They don't seem to cover the north side of Lex. very well where I'm at. That being said, I think it's dumb that they now call themselves "The Big 100" because their coverage area doesn't show it. A station like WSGS 101.1 could call themselves "The Big 101" EASILY. They have one huge signal.

They should stream then!

They do stream...they actually have a pretty decent website at wcyofm.com. I think they're live mornings, middays and afternoons, then jockless after that with the exception of Friday nights. They've got a new guy on in the afternoons that I think sounds like he's come from a bigger market. Anyone else notice that?

I can pick the station up in my car solid in Georgetown, although they fade in and out on me in Lexington. Not sure where their tower is, their COL is Irvine, so probably in that area.

I like the personalities on the Coyote, and Al on Friday night is really entertaining...great interviews and awesome music.

You should give Froggy 104.9 a try, we cover most of Lexington.

Gator

Let us know what you think.

Great music. Personalities are below average outside of morning drive and Lia.

Hi Gator, I'm over between G'town and Paris so I can't get 104.9 too well...I've listened a little in Lex. Not a bad station, and I like the Froggy idea...there's several Froggy's across the country...I think Ed Shane consults most of those. You and Cricket sound good in the mornings...and if you have Lia on at night, that's cool, I like her. I prefer the Coyote in the afternoons though...the new guy they have is good, and I like the Classics they play. (I'm an old fart)

I listen to 104.9 quite frequently where i live, but if I try to listen on the east side of Lex. while driving in my car, it interferes too much with WSKV in Stanton. Just to let you know Gator, Froggy's signal isn't good on the east side of town, but it has a pretty good signal on the west and south side. Its a pretty good station, but i like 100.7 better.

That's the problem I have...I can usually get 104.9 in my car, but not in my house.

Assuming that WBUL still does their 98 minute Bull Rides, I wish someone would expose that these are indeed "Bull". Several years ago, I timed several of these "rides". They ran from 75 to 88 minutes. I never did hear a 98 minute one as they claimed. Country listeners hate liars...expose the bums.

If Gator is the same Gator that was doing the Top 10 at 10 on WAMZ in 2001/2002, I miss that show. Loved it.

It is the same Gator :) I miss being on the air in Louisville, but I don't miss working for the big corp. I love it here in Frankfort, Forever Comm is a great company to work for and Froggy 104.9 is FROG-tastic. It's a lot of fun!!!

Thanks for being part of the soundtrack of the days when I was dating my now wife. She lived in Crestwood & if she had gotten an Arb survey, WAMZ would have picked up a point or two...she was a WAMZ junkie. I can relate about the corporate radio. I was the first employee at Emmis back in 1981 & built their flagship station. It was fun until they decided to build the Taj Mahal studios on the Circle. The day they hired me in 1981 was the best career day of my life until the day they gave me the boot in early '02. To date, that's the biggest favor anyone's done for me yet. I now take care of a slew of mostly mom & pop stations & haver NEVER missed that drive to Indy. Glad you are enjoying life in a smaller pond...it's the only way to go in my book.

Caught the swamp lunch on the way to Natural Brdige SP yesterday...love the local live listener calls. But the mic quality sounded like it was just below swamp level...as in muddy. The evening guy's mic was better. That's something simple I'd be working on if it were mine...
