Couple of Fort Wayne Items

I was scanning the dial today and I heard that Big Dave (former PD and afternoon guy at WYLT) was on Magic 95.1. It's nice to hear Biggie back on the air and I wish him well.

I listened to Hot 107.9 for a bit today and heard a promo for their latest contest. As with every contest they do, there's a really stupid catch: Basically you have to put a bumper sticker on your car (lame), keep it on their station 24/7 (which is to be expected for a radio contest) and drive around in hopes that someone driving their van will see your car, call our your license plate number and pull you over to choose an envelope that might have a $1,000 prize. Wait a minute... gas is almost $3 a gallon and people don't want to waste gas, yet they want you drive around aimlessly through Fort Wayne in hopes that they'll see you with your sticker and pull you over for a chance to win a prize, which by the way may be as little as $25. Does this strike anyone else as being stupid?

My 103.9 sounds really good. The music has come together.

Sunny 106.3 sounds good for what it is but I seriously doubt that it'll beat WLDE. I think that will be a losing battle like none other.

Wild is promoting two big announcements on Monday so I assume that at least one of those will be their sweeps contest.

The rest of the dial is the same as always, nothing majorly unpredictable.

What a messed up contest. Sticker? Okay. Call out your tag number on the air? Fine. Then have you CALL in within "X" minutes to claim your prize. Near the end of the book, have a big assed party and invite all the "winners" to draw their envelope out of a hopper. Chasing down listeners is stupid, and can be dangerous.

I was in Ft Wayne about a month ago and I must confess... <<<yawn>>>. But that is what most American radio sounds like these days kids. Cookie cutter crap.
I heard better radio out in nowhere Kentucky & small dot Georgia, with some young talent with a passable voice, talking about local events. THAT, my friends, is how desperate I am for LIVE FREAKIN' RADIO.<P ID="signature">______________
