Court TV to get a new name

As reported by Associated Press and Reuters, Turner Broadcasting will give its Court TV network a new name. That name won't be revealed until this Summer and won't take effect until the beginning of 2008. It's a move meant to unify the network's two programming blocks--courtroom coverage in the daytime and "CrimeTime Primetime" at night (which will see more reality shows added).

Any guesses as to what the new name? I can't think of what it could be, but it sounds as if they'll phase it in over time--a good move when you're retiring a long-time and recognizable branding like Court TV.

Has been done before -- when Ha! and The Comedy Channel merged on 4/1/1991 to form Comedy Central, they were known as "CTV: The Comedy Network" for two months, until the folks at Canada's CTV complained, which, in June 1991, led to CTV Comedy being renamed to Comedy Central.

Ironically, CTV in Canada has their own "Comedy Network".

It will always be "just another one of those garbage channels I don't watch" to me.

Turner may as well attach the CNN name to it and move it Atlanta as to me, it's become just another cable news channel. High profile trials LIVE while all other trials are aired on delay (Sometimes for weeks or months, yet they never disclose that).

The only difference is all the Reality stuff they have on there as well.

JMO....

Cheers :D

What is that about?

A cable news network & its feeble attempt to enter the world of so-called "Reality TV".

I say feeble because CNN airs REAL Reality TV. The LAST thing they need is the fake stuff.

Just my blunt opinion...

Cheers :D

Maybe it will be something like when TNN became Spike!

Spike Lee tried to get that name stopped, but failed.

So Court TV should call itself 'Lee'! Just to piss off Spike Lee once again.

That's funny, but it won't piss Spike off at all.

More like it would upset this company: http://www.leeprecision.com/

Or this one: http://www.lee.com/

But if it really is about the last name, why just Spike Lee?

How would Sara feel? http://www.saralee.com/home.aspx :D

(It would actually be very funny if the SL company were to try and claim that they were in the process of launching "Lee tv" to compete with food network or somethinng... ;D )

How about 'CNN Legal'?

Might as well tie it in to CNN thanks to the channel's live news coverage and its focus upon legal proceedings in criminal, civil, and government/political cases.

FWIW, "cnnlegal.com" redirects to CNN.com and is registered to Domains By Proxy.

Crime TV?

I liked the idea of the Justice channel, but why not give it both names?

The Crime & Justice channel...then they could even get more technical and call it C&J TV :)

A&E runs a channel called the "Crime & Investigation Network", although I don't think it's available in the US. According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_&_Investigation_Network, it is available in the UK, Australia, and Turkey, with plans to launch it this year in Germany and South Africa this year.

The page linked below appears to be one focused on ad sales of this network:
