Coverage of Chief Justice Rehnquist Death

Was wondering in Chicago, Fox32 WFLD-TV broke in to it's regular programming and broadcasted this announcement. It was also simulcast on WPWR UPN50 in Chicago, which is also owned by Fox. I didn't see any other Chicago station break in and announce it. (Perhaps they did and I missed it)

Was wondering if any station in your local area broke in to announce this.
______________

Was watching CBS "Sunday Morning" and they did a live take of Bush's comments, plus, a small commentary from Bob Schieffer and a few other CBS talking heads before returning to the regular show.

ABC broke into the Notre Dame-Pittsburgh game with the announcement.

It was asked earlier:

I believe the news broke shortly after 11 P.M. EDT last night (September 3rd), so I suspect that on CBS and NBC affiliates in the Eastern and Central time zones, the story broke on late local newscasts.

Were it not for the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, this story would have gotten a lot more attention from the news media.

It has even been suggested in Washington that due to the death of Rehnquist, that confirmation hearings for judge John Roberts (who has been nominated to fill the seat that Sandra Day-O'Connor is vacating once her successopr has been confirmed) might be postponed. Those hearings are scheduled to begin on Tuesday.

CNN broke the news to the world at 11:06:23pm ET. MSNBC broke in with Cheryl Casone at 11:12:20pm. FNC followed at 11:14:10...
Edited by BrunoL on 09/04/05 10:01 PM.

ABC, NBC and CBS broke in with the news here on the Coast (Didn't check on Fox). NBC stayed on the longest, throwing back to the regular schedule at 8:30.

What was interesting was that the secondary NCAA game, Texas A&M at Clemson, was in the final nail-biting two minutes and Clemson was driving for the winning score when Gary Thorne had to throw to the bulletin.

I wonder if someone at ABC was rolling tape at the time in case that game ended while News had the air for a very important (and very timely) story.

Actually the Newsmedia is giving Rehnquist a back seat. They are reporting on his death less than they normally would because of Hurricane Katrina. That is what is dominating the news now. If that did not happen you would be seeing far more coverage on this happening.
