Coverage on Michelle Obama

I do remember in my early childhood the 'press on Jackie'.. Of course media had a line in those days and Pauley and his counterparts at NBC drew lines, keeping the press accountable... None of that today... I do question the 'articulate' line on our current President... When a 'telepromter' is there, yes...When I hear raw audio on spur of the moment banter I hear "Uhhh" and a load of 'trying to find the right words to say'... If I had a telepromter in High School Speech competitions, I would have won three or four catagories in our state meets! Just my observation that the current and last leader are human and not 'gods'...

As for the press being biased against W - I think that's obvious. But is there any doubt that George W. Bush was the most hapless, inarticulate, incompetent, and pitiful boob that inhabited the White House? ...at least since Buchanan and Pierce in the mid 19th century?

Uh, yes there is. Does the name "Jimmy Carter" ring a bell? This nation is still better off than we were during the Carter years. Much better off.

I love it when people talk in absolutes.

Damn! Ok BRNout, and Dhett. You got me. I'll admit that the Carter administration is a contender for the worst 4 year presidential administration in history. Between 1977 and 1981, I remember squirming in discomfort much as my conservative Republican friends squirmed in pain during the last 4 years of the George W. Bush administration.

You could say that Carter never got us into an un-winable war like W did. On the other hand, we had the Iran hostage crisis, and 13% inflation. Not a good time for most people. Personally, those Carter years were a period of considerable financial success for me personally, so I tend to discount the damage done to the country.

History has shown that Carter is a good communicator. Jim Eason, the now retired right wing San Francisco talk show host referred to Carter as his "favorite ex-president," and he meant it. Jimmy has done a lot of good work since 1981. I doubt W will show the ability to rehabilitate his image in future years as Carter has managed to do. But we'll see...

Carter loses me (yet again) when he does dumb things like travel to Venezuela to "observe" clearly rigged elections. Then, he says "looks good to me" while hugging ol' Hugo goodbye. My Venezuelan friends tell me that Carter's status as a joke has definitely transcended international boundaries now. They all know that some voting machines were rigged as was the entire process (basically, the affluent areas were "disenfranchised" with 10 hour lines and lost votes; poor areas had free food and rum and all the votes you could cast). Carter saw none of it. Perhaps they should allow election observers like him to be able to do it in braille because he's clearly blind.

Maybe he is a nice guy and I'd like to think that he means well. But, when it comes to world affairs, the man has always been in over his head.

Can't dispute your last comment. Given all that's gone on in the last 4 years between W and the media, my bet is that he keeps a low profile. And, that actually fits his personality. But who knows? The elder Bush left office as pretty unpopular but now he's somewhat beloved. The public's mood is fickle indeed.....

When the bill comes due for the 3+ trillion dollars being spent by Congress and the current administration the "W" years will, in spite of everything that happened on his watch, seem like the good old days.

Hmm - I guess we've strayed a bit from this topic, eh?

Oh well, I'll bet Michelle Obama is fluent in Austrian, even if the President isn't. ;)
