Cowboys move from WOAI to JACK FM

I thought sports usually belonged on talk stations.

Congrats to them, FM is better than AM anyway. I've missed the Spurs on FM ever since WOAI left that band.

Looks like Border might flip 102.7 to Sports. Austin had the Horn under Border, welcome to the New Cowboys Radio 102.7 the Spur!!! I can see that, along with KZDC maybe simulcasting 102.7.

"Now I need to figure out a way to incorporate 94.1 KTFM into the this somehow." states Landis from that article.

Jack moves to 94.1? or 94.1 will be part KTFM and part Jack?

Possibly, KTFM will move to it's original home at 102.7 and KJXK will move to 94.1 and become sports.

Oh, CRAP. That means the Cowboys can no longer be heard in Austin north of the river. Oh well, with Dallas' record lately, who cares?

Not likely. KJXK is Border's highest billing station. Even when they had multiple stations in multiple markets, KJXK was their highest billing station. It costs next to nothing to run and makes money hand over fist.

Adding sports may seem a little strange, but sports teams want to be on FM. Some won't even talk to AM's, even 50,000 watt AM signals that can be heard coast-to-coast!

With Jerry still in charge they're not going anywhere.

Sad to see them not on WOAI any more.

It's actually not a bad deal for an FM music station to carry a POPULAR football franchise. Adult contemporary KVIL in Dallas carried the Cowboys for years. They only had to carry one game a week and it introduced the station to a new audience.

Also remember Longhorn Football in Austin is carried on country-formatted KVET-FM.

Yes, Fred, KVET-FM, which can be heard everywhere.

This versus that candlestick out southwest on 104.9. I would bet that, at least in daytime, WOAI has a better coverage pattern over Austin, at least in real life, than it does.

But then again, it is only the Dallas team.

What was its name again? ::)

I just heard the promo on Jack, "for cowboy talk 1250am" "when the game goes live hear it on 102.7"

Somehow he has to incorporate KTFM into this? I don't seem to understand what he meant by that statement, if KJXK is the top biller, then I am thinking part KTFM and part Jack on 94.1, Jack's music moves down the dial to 94.1 during the Cowboys game. Or, Jack-FM on 94.1 and Sports on 102.7 FM.

KTFM and Jack are the two successful stations at Border Media. Please explain the why they would kill one of two top billers for a Sport format station.

It sounds like Mark will be running ads about the Cowboys now on Jack FM on 94.1. But the thought of Jack or KTFM flipping to Sports, is ridiculous.

Wouldn't he also run ads on KTSA, as well if that was the case?
When was the last time KTFM 94.1 was in the top 5?
and
Wouldn't Mark state that he would be airing ad's on sister station KTFM instead of "Now, I got to find a way to incorporate this into KTFM?"

They've consistantly in the top 5(18-34 women, their target demo)....

Blowing up a mediocre station/format, even a top 5 station, and putting sports or talk on it sounds just like what Border would do.

I've met Landis a few times. How does he get a title like "VP/Programming" in the first place? He doesn't "program" anything. Border has too many titles and chiefs.

And aren't these stations for sale?

Border killed KTSA, and they'll screw up JACK, too. It's only a matter of when, not if.

What I'm curious about is which BMP station will get the weekly on-air conversations with Jerry Jones and Jason Garrett airing in-season during AM drive that go with the affiliation deal.

Will those go to Trey Ware on KTSA or will BMP start a local show on KZDC?

I would say they would go to KZDC, it wouldn't make since to place it on KTSA, other than having a stronger signal.
