Cowboys off KLUV???

I do not know about the D Magazine article, but Dale Hansen just mentioned the situation on News 8 tonight. So which station steps up to the plate to carry The Cowboys?

GSG

The Ticket is the most logical..the other is KESN..most likely

I think we can assume that it won't be on any Infinity station if it's leaving KLUV.

The Ticket seems unlikely unless they change to a MUCH better frequency. (that's not going to happen) KLIF would be more likely, but still has some signal issues since it's a 5kw AM station. Maybe KPLX would be possible.

KESN is possible, but I doubt Disney would pony up the cash to do that. (this also rules out WBAP and KSCS)

Perhaps one of the Clear Channel stations?

KZPS - book it.

As long as Brad Sham stays and they can keep the audio synced up with the local broadcast I'm good where ever it goes.

KZPS makes the most sense. They have a strong signal and could benefit from the infusion of male listeners. Plus they could do profitable Cowboys talk shows during the week without alienating their audience as would have been the case with KLUV and KVIL.

The Ticket and ESPN 103.3 have serious signal deficiencies and I doubt that Jerry Jones would allow his team radio broadcasts to be on a station that did not blanket the goo-goo-plex.

105.3 already has NASCAR, they do a Cowboy's show with Tony Casillas and they have a big enough stick.

I have been told by knowledgeable sources that no station has made money on carrying the Cowboys since KRLD. The cost for the rights were negotiated originally at KVIL by Mel and were far beyond what others were offering and my understanding is that from a business standpoint were illogical.

Keep in mind as well, that although a big "bragging right", the games have really not moved the meter on either KVIL or KLUV from a ratings standpoint.

Putting them on a station that could air all the associated programming might help make it profitable.

My best guess is that Jones will create his own Radio Network much like the television deal for pre-games, sell it himself, and affiliate it to one statin in Dallas Fort Worth.

Do not rule out the possibility that Jones might purchase one of several local AM radio stations that are for sale, create an "All Cowboys" radio station, flagship and air the games, all associated programming, and perhaps originate local Cowboy and NFL talk programming.

Hide and watch!

Hooray and about time!

Since when do people that listen to oldies give a ____ about stank old football? I'm glad I won't have to tune to KXEZ any more to hear music when the cowboys are playing.

D magazine is right however. What Jerry wants in terms of cash is obscene. I still wouldn't rule out the Ticket or KESN,though the arguments against both are quite good. Jerry is not predictable, and could surprise us by putting it on anything from KLTY to a Spanish station as long he get$ hi$ Buck$.

Problem is, 105.3 is an Infinity station, as is KLUV.

Cowboys and Infinity/KLUV are history. The staff was given the bad news this afternoon. Most will be gone by Sunday. No other news from Valley Ranch as to where the games might air next season. Don't be surprised when CC/KZPS makes an announcement on the subject.

Always sad to see anyone in our industry lose a gig.
Watch for Christy Scales to end up on a much higher profile sideline.
Watch for Brad to be looking for work. I'd be really surprised if the next crowd will take him. They need someone younger with a fresh perspective. Brad is very condescending (that's talking down to people) and often downright negative. Babe, despite being a former backup quarterback in the NFL, doesn't add as much perspective as he should.
When the games suck (we know our Cowboys), there needs to be something other than the obvious pointing out of just how much it does suck from the PBP man. He used to be very good at that - not lately.
Time for a change.

Jerry will not let the broadcast go to any station that will not toe the Cowboys line. He catches too much heat from the host on both of those stations.

Ratings go up and down from year to year. The cume is the most impressive Arbitron stat. Over a million. There is probably no other 3-hour, single-day slot in Dallas radio with a higher cume.

I have it on pretty good authority that CC came into the picture in some form at the last minute.

It was a break-even proposition at best for KLUV.

Re: Hooray and about time!

As I sit here and read this thread, I am wondering the same thing as everyone else.. where to put the Cowboy Broadcast. Though if Jerry was smart.. what he would do is control the NETWORK and place it on a station that will carry on his wishes as to program around his product. That includes weekday shows out on the town, and make all his players visable. HOWEVER... with that said.. we all know that Bill Parcells puts a pretty heavy clamp down on players and coaches that talk to the media or for that matter Joe Fan.

With that said... KZPS has some merrit or they could move it back to one of the orginal homes of the Cowboys back in the early 70's when it was KFWD 102.1 FM.. (long before Q102)-- when Bill Mercer was the Play by Play voice in those days. Why Not the EDGE? good signal, and with their hard edge format, brings younger ears to the games and on Monday Morning the station is locked on! Could bring in something for CC on that end.

Someone said that Christy Scales and Brad Sham would loose their gigs with this shake up, I don't think so. Jones knows what SHAM is to the Cowboys, I don't think he would loose him, and Scales, well IF she wanted to move to another broadcast team, she could name her price, but I think her roots are here in Dallas, and this is where she would rather be! I would think, (and again this is just opinion) That Brad and crew would stick together... they are property of Jerry and the Cowboys, and stations just have them on loan for their reports and other things that they offer to a station.. but their paycheck is written on the Cowboys Bank Account!

Who ever gets the Cowboys, they have 7 months to get this in gear and promoted.. because COME JULY.. this starts all over again with Summer Camp and Pre-Season... its going to be interesting to say the least..

Just a thought!
