Cowherd Loses One Hour

At the end of his show today - and don't me why I was listening in the first place - Colin Cowherd mentioned that starting April 5, his ESPN Radio show will now be from 10 AM-1 PM ET, or 7-10 AM PT. He claims he can use the extra hour, now that he is also doing a TV show, but I think we all know the real reason why he's getting an hour taken away... ::)

So, who ends up with the 1 PM hour? Van Pelt?

I thought the fourth hour was pretty much West Coast only. Everywhere I knew of on the east coast he was 10-1 so is it really that big of a deal.

The fourth hour of the Herd tends to drag. For that matter, so does the final hour of Mike and Mike. It's more like a "best of" hour. If I were a chronic listener, I would go to Dan Patrick
at 9am. Three hours is enough for any show these days with few exceptions.

Last year that changed...he added a national hour at 1 after Mike Tirico left the radio chair to focus on TV, and they discontinued the west coast hour that was aired at 9am.

This is what ESPN did a little more than 10 years ago to the hideous "Fabulous Sports Babe" program which wasn't getting it done.

Sports Babe then had a hissy fit and went to SportsFan Radio network and coupled with her health problems it destroyed her career.

Which was ripe to be destroyed anyway, but regardless.

Cowherd brings strong opinions. But there's something very unlikeable about the guy, whereas Tony Kornheiser was likeable.

It just seems to me that with Cowherd's style he may have ticked off enough listeners that he isn't the fresh new perspective with something to say anymore.

Instead, he comes off as the shill for ESPN who thinks he's better than everyone else.

Herd can be pretty entertaining, and some of his takes are thought-provoking and funny. However, his fatal flaw is that he is too full of himself. He's 45, has radio AND television shows,
makes a lot of money, and drinks Grey Goose vodka. He's more successful than we are. He also works out and has a better body for his age than any of us. Other than that, he's just a
regular guy.
That being said, I ask you people the same question I asked about the Sports Babe and a couple years ago about Dan Patrick: How would he do without ESPN Radio behind him and the usual lineup of weekly guests courtesy of the Worldwide Leader? We know that the Babe tanked, but would Cowherd have as much success as Dan Patrick has had?

I don't think he would either ,I am listening to the DP show now and not to Cowherd.Too many commercial breaks at ESPN radio also.

I know you can only take so much of Mr. Passion Bucket, but he gets my ears over Cowherd. I like DP's crew better too. Yes Cowherd's style isn't very likeable kind of the Mr. know it all I've lived here, here and here. Your school/town/conference sucks. I guess people get tired of that.
