Cox almost done

They're not quite there yet, but Cox is just about finished firing every person working for them when they bought the stations. That's the air staffs of four music stations and one sports talker. Too many people to list. If you have yet to hear, David Moore's out at Rock105. (Good moves! Lose LexnTerry, watch the ratings drop like a rock, then fire the program director who had nothing to do with the first two problems.) And the brain trust at Cox is busy making more changes at APE. I've said it before. What an awful place to work.

Don't waste a nanosecond feeling sorry for David Moore. Jettisoning his deadweight is the only smart thing Rock 105 has done lately. He's a mediocre programmer and terrible DJ who has mastered the art of delegating the dirty work to his production and promotions people while he takes a 2-hour lunch. He's gotten where he's gotten simply because of his lord and master, consultant Fred Jacobs. Moore also has a long history of gleefully firing perfectly adequate employees just to satisfy his own ego or to fulfill Freddie's directives. Now he knows what his own medicine tastes like.
Rock 105 has become a 2nd tier, also-ran radio station. They hardly merit an off-air PD these days, and Moore simply can't cut it in front of the mic. In fact, 105's collapse in the wake of Lex & Terry's departure proves one thing: THEY were the reason for the station's success, not Moore or Jacobs. Maybe Freddie is the next budget cut Rock 105 should make.

Pull your pants up, your bitter panties are showing.

David Moore has been set free from a radio company that has no clue about programming rock stations. Look at their track record of it nationally and you will then see who to blame about the fall of Rock 105. If Cox had allowed David to actually program and make decisions, I would suggest he would have not hired that miserable morning show and made the music changes needed to preempt what Planet ended up doing.

David has already gotten another, better gig with a quality company. If he sucked as much as you claim I would think his struggle to find a new job would have taken more than a few days.

Of course Moore already has a new gig lined up. Unlike the folks he's bushwhacked in the past (after letting them believe everything was okay), Moore had plenty of advance clues that his demise at 105 was approaching. I'm sure he put the feelers out long before that disastrous last book. Besides, Freddie isn't going to let one of his prime yes men sit on the sidelines for long. Just because someone is connected doesn't mean they're particularly talented. Radio is notorious for for rewarding meanness and mediocrity.
I'll have to take your word for it that Cox's rock stations are suffering nationally. I haven't checked, because I don't care. But if it's true, perhaps it's because Bob Neil keeps hiring PDs like Moore.
If he was so constrained and frustrated by Cox, Moore should've "freed" himself long ago by resigning, rather than waiting to be turfed. If he's so good, the job offers would've been dripping off of him.

I truly wish there was a site like this one for attorneys. What fun we would have.....using anonymous names to bash folks. WOOHOO

Methinks the sphinx has a bone to pick with David Moore.

Does it sound to anyone else that perhaps "the sphinx" (all two posts of his greatness) has been "jettisoned" by Mr. Moore in the past?

Sounds an awful lot more like sour grapes than any supportable criticism of David Moore.

I worked with David often, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. He's a smart guy, knows what he wants, knows the game, and doesn't suffer fools or bulls--t. One of the better guys I worked with over there at Cox.

Anecdotes only go as far as your proximity to the person you're criticizing, and your proximity isn't measurable because you're afraid of telling anyone who you are (I was, and that was wrong).

And did you ever bother to think that perhaps David kept his job at Rock and tried to make it work post L&T because of the reasons most of us do our jobs? Family to support? Pride in our work? Belief in what we're doing?

No, David's far more "Evil" than that...NOT.

From All Access:

David Moore Named Entercom/Madison OM
ENTERCOM has named DAVID MOORE OM of its three-station cluster in MADISON, WI (AAA WMMM, Oldies WOLX, and Adult Hits WCHY). Previously, MOORE enjoyed a near 10-year stint as PP at COX Classic Rock WFYV/JACKSONVILLE.

Congrats Dave

Oh, goody! Brian V. has chimed in with his assessment of the situation... taking seven paragraphs to state the perfectly obvious. Aren't you the fellow who was exposed last year as having used the clumsy pseudonym "ClearChannelCoxRenda" to gossip about fired Cox employees? No, that's not quite right... you exposed YOURSELF. Someone else laid out the bait and you publicly swallowed it hook, line & sinker. A pretty hilarious mea culpa, as we recall.
Almost everything you said about Moore is true. He's an intelligent guy who knows what he wants, no doubt about it. He's just not a particularly good RADIO guy. He's also duplicitous, self-serving and unwilling to honor his agreements with others when the time comes to do so. Moore should be spending his time alone in a cubicle, staring at a computer screen and doing research or something. That way he won't be forced to deal with those pesky little things called people.
Many of us were, like you, fans of Moore at one time. Then, through our "proximity" to him, we learned of his true nature. Obviously your proximity and ours didn't coincide.
Jacksonville's gain is Madison's loss.

Until you are brave enough to do two things:

1) Give specific examples of what you speak
2) Stop hiding behind your 'new' forum name (since you knew about previous forum going-ons, it is easy to assume you are a regular)

until then, you are nothing more than a bitter coward with an agenda.

Well thanks - we were wondering when you'd give us enough evidence to reveal who you are.

1. You write well, which means you're probably smart - and I've read your movie reviews, so I know you write well, and I know you, and know that you're smart.
2. You obviously hate David Moore, and that means he must have fired you for some cause you felt was "unjust".
3. You bear some ill will towards me, because I mentioned the "hearsay" about your dismissal, which I know was wrong, in hindsight, and I've apologized multiple times to you and everyone for it. I've eaten my crow. It's too bad you can't get over it...you just keep slamming me and changing your name over and over again.

Look, I'm unafraid to put myself out there because I have the luxury of not giving a crap. You don't share that luxury, I understand, but since you were the tater tot who called me out, I'm going to share the wealth:

This is obviously Jay Sinclair, former midday guy at Rock. I think it's time he gets over it, don't you?

Now you can change your name to Jay S. and post honestly.

Have a pleasant Monday!
Brian V.

P.S. I considered you a friend, Jay, and I had a lot of respect for you. It's sad to find out that you're such a petty person. I certainly never meant to hurt you or your reputation, I made it clear that what I was posting as CCCoxRenda or whatever was "the word around the building," not meant to represent actual reality. Let it go, my friend. Seriously. Life is too short.

The first thing David Moore ever said to me was an overly harsh criticism of my ability as a jock.

I definitely didn't have a motivation to join the "David Moore admiration society" at first, but he was always good to me after that.

I'm sad that wasn't the case with you, but I find it doubtful that it was intentionally malicious. Perhaps just harsher than you wanted to be treated.
Brian V.

I dont understand the back forth here... I think Cox is doing a terrific job with the stations.. I got out fo radio a few years back to work with my wife. I think Rock105 has taking some hits but that is the business...I am sure they just felt like some new blood might change things... WAPE sounds really good right now... This new night guys has alot of energy like the old night guywho is on days now I think? But he sounds great too WOKV is always top 3 in ratings... Its the cycle of radio...

On a lighter note...(lol)...What to we think COX will do with 106.5..?????The 'Promise format is moving to non commercial 88.1' tommorrow so at midnight tonight COX has to do something??...Will they stunt for awhile???...THoughts?

DEAR BRIAN V.:
Nobody doubts that you're basically a good guy. You've just got to learn to mind your own business. In fact, you once described yourself here as a "blabbity a' hole". You make much of the fact that you now post under your real name, but you've only done so since you were tricked into outing yourself as "ClearChannelCoxRenda".
What on earth did you think you were doing when you originally posted gossip here about fired Cox employees? Curing cancer? Ending world hunger? No, you were trying to establish yourself as the mysterious go-to guy for Cox inside info. But all you ended up doing was to help hinder the efforts of several innocent people to get their careers back on track. It blew up in your face, and you did publicly eat crow and apologize, so we didn't comment on it at the time.
But now here you are again, doing the exact same thing by insinuating yourself into a thread that had absolutely nothing to do with you. If you bash The Sphinx for relishing the karmic fireworks at Cox, The Sphinx will bash back. Can't take the heat? Stay out of the kitchen.
Interesting guesswork on Jay Sinclaire. You are now about 1/5 of the way towards understanding what's actually going on here. (FYI: We have it on good authority that Jay is still doing middays at Rock 105... he's just taking a really long lunch break)

DEAR RADIOKNOB:
1. We'd love to give you oodles of specifics (Really. We would.). But we won't because we don't want to jeopardize our current positions, both within and without Cox. We also don't want to betray the confidence of a couple of Cox higher-ups who had the guts to loosen their ties and be honest with us about some things that the original gentleman in question couldn't be bothered with.
2. We hide behind a forum name for the exact same reason that 80% of the people on this entire website do, whether they're posting positive or negative comments about someone or something. It doesn't say "RadioKnob" on your birth certificate, does it? That's the nice thing about Radio-Info.Com. It gives the little guy (or gal) a chance to smooth out the big guy's karma.
Bitter? Yep. Agenda? Check. Cowardly? Perhaps so... but only to the same extent that a certain someone else was when he failed to stand up for those who trusted him.

My wife isn't going to be happy about me wasting my time responding, but I felt the need to clear some obvious inaccuracies up:

First, let me correct your "misrememberance" of history:

I started posting under my real name more than a year BEFORE being "outed" as CCCoxRenda (at least get that right) - and while I was still working for Cox Radio, mind you.

And I had no problem being "outed" - it wasn't like someone "tricked me into it" - you think I'm stupid or new to the message board thing? I felt bad, and felt it was appropriate to apologize, because obviously some people didn't like how I repeated the things I heard around the building at Cox about them.

I'm not in radio anymore, though I do still care about it. I have better, more important things to occupy my time: my children.

And also - I made it clear long ago that I was merely giving more information in response to some posts inquiring about/discussing the "mass exodus" from Cox, not trying to be "the informant". I'm not an egocentric arrogant ****** like some people I've known in radio. I don't need that sort of external adulation. I had and have the love of my family and my friends, and from what I could gather, the respect of my peers through my work.

This is my last response on this topic, and I'm again going to say that I feel sorry for you. I doubt anything anyone posts anywhere actually affects anyone's employability. If it does, radio people are shallower than I thought.

Let it go, Jay - seriously.
Brian V.

All we know is that within 72 hours after your post about fired folks appeared in the spring of '04, several of those job seeker's phones virtually stopped ringing. We've put our heads together and can find no other explanation for it. Perhaps you underestimate the influence of this site.
And if you think Jay is the one who's been picking on you, ask yourself this: how could he possibly have figured out that you were "CCCoxRenda" all by himself?

I love the new Radio-Info and I tried to be the only poster to retain their old screen name. Came close, now I'm The Goodfellow instead of Goodfellow. One thing I like better is Brasswell isn't here to stop P'ing matches like the one between Brian V. and the Sphinx. Hey Sphinx pal, if whatever Brian posted caused you and your fired Cox buddies phones to quit ringing, then consider who you were applying too! Was it Oldies Cat, the Soup or M'Burg?

Anyway, the ball is now in Brian V's court.

Goodfellow is back to whack!
