Cox and Billboards

My recollection is that Cox has never been a fan of Billboards for their radio stations. Heck for the most part other than the 1st year a new radio station is launched Cox usually doesn't even run 30-second TV Spots. With the sole exceptions being Magic 94.9 and 107.3 The Eagle.

Since the launch of Hot it seems like Cox is really getting into the whole billboard idea. Now Cox has new billboards for 102-5 The Bone's talk format and a neat 97x billboard on the Veterans Expressway displaying what song is playing now.

Is Cox actually making an effort to advertise stations in the Tampa cluster. Other than 30-second TV spots about Magics 94 minutes of commercial free music and The Eagle being "Tampa Bays Classic Hits Station".

You saw a TV spot for The Eagle? Are you sure it wasn't this commercial? Because that collection of 100 songs fits the complete Eagle playlist to a tee. (Though I'm not sure about "Hearthbreaker"... ::))

107-3 The Eagle commercials have aired on WTTA MyTVTampaBay, Bright House networks Channel 6. I'm sure it wasn't the commercial you posted because it bragged about its "50 Minute Music Hours". That and the announcer was the same guy who does the sweepers for The Eagle. Who also does the imaging for WSVR 97.1 The River in ATL. The music collection does however do an excellent job at summing up the playlist.

I have found old TV Spots for WHPT and WPOI. The WHPT one was used in late 1999 and early 2000 during the classic rock war with WTBT Thunder 103.5. The WPOI spot was in heavy rotation in 2002 when "The Point" was just launched. Both of these spots haven't been in use in more than a decade.

In fairness, wouldn't one CD from a K-Tel classic rock collection qualify as a "50-minute music hour"? ::) And by the by... who is that imaging guy for The Eagle and The River? He was also the VO for New York's WPIX-TV in the late 80's or so...

Doug Paul does the imaging for most of "The Eagle" stations as well as "The River' in Atlanta. Hid did voice overs on WGN as well as did the voices on many commercials. His website has some 30 second TV spots for "The River" in Atlanta. The TV Spots for "The River" are the same as "The Eagle". For the exception of the logo and the fact that "107-3 The Eagle" is in place of "97-1 The River".

LOL, the only thing missing is the repetitive sweepers telling you that you listening to "107-3 The Eagle", with that darn screeching eagle in the background.

Doug Paul - so that's who owns those pipes! Thanks... And I guess it makes sense that he did VO work for WGN (sister station of the aforementioned WPIX)...

Just recently? Well, I suppose if Cox is going to go all in with billboards for stations in their market, they may as well throw in the morning talkmeister (even though he doesn't really need the help)...

Doug Paul is the VO guy we use for 107-3 The Eagle. WSRV replaced him at least a year ago, and now uses Scott Fisher. Jacksonville, Louisville and Dayton have replaced Doug with Mark Maurer.

Cox is doing digital boards with Clearchannel Outdoor so they can rotate the images to say "Cowhead on live now" etc according to the time. They did do some TV at the beginning of the year for Hot 101.5.
