COX Connecticut Changes 5/30

COX Cable will be making the following changes on their Connecticut Systems on 5/30.

Meriden, Southington, Cheshire System:

7 Home Shopping Network (Moved from Channel 8 )
8 WTNH ABC (Moved from Channel 7)

Enfield System: (Not sure what other towns they serve)

7 QVC (Moved from Channel 8 )
8 WTNH ABC (Moved from Channel 7)

Manchester, Newington, Glastonbury, Rocky Hill System:

7 QVC (Moved from Channel 8 )
8 WTNH ABC (Moved from Channel 7)

I wonder why Cox had WTNH on 7 in these systems in the first place? I can understand why it made sense in the analog days to avoid putting WTNH on 8 in systems near New Haven; "ingress" from the on-air 8 signal into the cable system could have caused ghosting on poorly-shielded TV sets, something that's no longer a factor now that WTNH is no longer on RF 8.

But all of these communities are so far from New Haven that not only wouldn't ingress be a factor...but over-the-air reception of analog 8 was probably iffy to begin with!

Just like when Comcast here in New Britain used to have WFSB-TV (CBS) channel 3 of Hartford on analog cable cable channel 2! Today there are color bars on that channel. The rest of the analog lineup is now gone. We always had WTNH-TV on analog cable channel 8 here for as long as I can remember.

WTNH used to be on channel 8 on COX until they changed their line-up back in August, 2000. I miss those analog cable line-up changes. We used to get a notice in the mail a month before the changes with a chart enclosed. That was one of their bigger line-up changes. WEDH/CPTV used to be on channel 7 back then. They put WTNH there in 2000 and moved WEDH to channel 5, which was TBS.

In the Hartford area, when WFSB was on channel 2, analog channel 3 would have ingress as it was called a few posts earlier. The old Prevue Channel was on 3. I watched that all of the time, and remember the distorted reception. It would get so bad, that WFSB would come in over the Prevue Channel, so much so that you could see WFSB very clearly. As a kid, I was angry when that happened. After that, Prevue (it had switched to TV Guide by then) moved to channel 8. COX3 moved to channel 3 and had the same reception problem. That was a unique channel.

In any case, it's interesting to see WTNH back on 8, where it should have stayed.

Was I the only one who got excited when you opened the mail and found a new channel lineup card in the mail?

I miss those days!

I know you guys are talking NBC cable...I mean Comcast here. But WTNH has been on 8 on Cablevision in SW CT since it came on here 30 years ago.
