Cox considering Urban AC?

97X?

97x will benefit the most when the flip is made between 97.9 hd-1 and hd-2.

If WFLZ feels too much of the "heat" from "Hot", I'll have to re-evaluate my thoughts.
(I can see 98Rock moving to 93.3.)

97X or WDUV. Despite its high 6+ ratings, WDUV struggles to reach the top 10 25-54 and is probably neck-and-neck with 97X for lowest biller in the Cox Tampa cluster. If they went away Magic 94.9 would pick up a lot of their listeners.

If Cox indeed thinks 98 Rock is vulnerable (I don't by the way), maybe 97X moves to 105.5 and UAC ends up on 97.1....

You also have the precedent of Cox just blowing up 96 Rock in Orlando to simulcast WDBO. If 102.5 is the one that goes, I still think 97X moves and UAC ends up at 97.1...

Joyner is on Cox stations in South Florida and Orlando, so I think it's a good possibility...

What about an HD2 + translator? Is that also a possibility? Cumulus and Clear Channel, among others, have done this... has Cox ever done this before?

Parttimer these revelations blow me away considering you argued that WTMP's ratings and billing were too low for CBS to consider filling the WTMP void last week. Now you believe that 97x and the duv have billing low enough for Cox to consider it this week. I'm puzzled, was there some huge influx of African Americans into the Tampa market in the last two days? LOL! I hope you are right but don't believe it will happen with Cox any more than I though it was likely to happen with CBS. Even if the signal bites as much as the 97X signal, it would be major adult competition for the BEAT which might make Clear Channel tighten that puppy up a bit. Competition is a good thing!

Hey, while we're at it, why not park the WHTQ calls on 101.5? Because WHTQ would fit "HoT" pretty well :)

Parttimer: HD2/translator is more likely, I'd say... but the thing is, are there any open frequencies for translators in Tampa?

Moving 98 Rock to 93.3, seriously? That's like moving Y-100 to 105.1 of WAPE 95.1 to 106.5?
C'mon..........

I already mentioned it in another thread but 97.1 could be possibly upgraded. Even if Cox keeps the power the same and puts its transmitter on top with WDUV and WXTB. Therefore upgrading it from a C2 and a C1. its 50dBu contour could be extended from 40 miles from the transmitter to 50 miles. On the 97.1 frequency you do have a few LPFM's out in Orlando. However even if Cox did upgrade those stations will be too far away to cause iterferance. If Cox could upgrade its 50dbu contour will extend to Lakeland, Bradenton and Crystal River.

Ok, since you don't like that ons, 98Rock to 100.7. That way those traveling between Tampa and Orlando only have to move the dial 2 places.

WFLA still takes over 97.9. Mix goes away.

Of all of your suggested lines of thinking, this makes the best logic....I can get on board with your thought here......I have felt the WDUV signal just too good for the revenue it pulls ith that format......and you make an excellent point that WWRM is likely to pick up the bulk....

I dont think 97X gets moved......they are just waiting out 98 rock turning into WFLA......which still may, or may not happen in my opinion,,,,,,lets hope it DOES NOT

kill me a DOVE anyday, rather than lose 98 rock..........

just my 2 cents

It would be nice if 97.1 could upgrade to a class C1, however, under current FCC FM minimum spacing rules, that is not possible, even if applying short-spacing directional antenna rules. WSUN-FM is too close to second adjacent WINK-FM 96.9 Fort Myers. Even if 97.1 will technically work at the 1,000 foot level on the Holiday tower, WSUN could not operate at its maximum allowable 50kw specified for class C2s. It would be required to reduce ERP due to the additional height above the maximum 492 feet allowed for class C2 FM. The same holds true with 92.5 C2 and 98.7 C2. Each station is already operating at maximum allowable power levels and antenna height.

If Cox thinks that WDUV is a loser here in Tampa Bay, why did they just flip a station to a similiar format in Miami? WWRM probably would get some of the WDUV crowd, but I think Delilah would just irritate those of us who want Wilson Picket, the Spinners, and The Four Tops after dark. Right now, WDUV probably plays more Urban gold than any other station in this area. They could sort of merge the formats with Joyner and Baisden days and go to softer UAC gold at night. (not a joke this time) Of course I presume Dick Ring is out. If Cox had no room for Corey Dylan on the Eagle, then I guess Dick is toast. I would listen to a WDUV with a serious UAC leaning more than I listen now.

Love the idea. That kind of music is nice and has a place here in Tampa. Currently I listen to WCFB 94.5 from Orlando. I also like the idea of being able to hear Corey Dylan again.

F.Y.I- Deliah is a turn off for me too. Don't like her show.
