Cox flips The Point...in Jacksonville

No ramifications if it would mean that KHPT would be competing with the Buzz.

Yep. Alternative's always been hard to sell in Jacksonville, but since the death of The Planet (sometime in the late '90's, I think) and Rock 105's switch from active to classic rock, there's been a hole in that market for new rock/alternative music. Hope it flies this time around!

Actually "The Planet" still revolves in Jacksonville at 107.3, so Cox will be going "head to head" in Jacksonville. I've been wondering if Dean & Rog moving to 107.5 might lead to a shift towards Classic Rock/Classic Hits hybrid on KHTC (in the same vein as Cox stations like WSRV in Atlanta, and WSFR in Louisville)? The flip of "The Point" in Jacksonville does lead one to the status of KHPT, but hasn't the PPM been fairly friendly to KHPT?

Ah, good to know. I was moving out of the city as they were trying out Grease in the afternoons there. I'd heard it had gone under a few years later, but didn't check for myself. Thanks for the correction.

I would hope that this would happen to Houston and go up against the Buzz.
the Buzz needs competition and since its playlist is only "new" hard rock, Metallica and 40 songs from 1997 from Pearl Jam, STP, Creed and Nickelback.

and how much longer can the Mix/Point/Jack hybrid rock/pop/ heavy-rotation last in Houston? for as big a market as Houston, there is no variety or competition.

Oops...I didn't necessarily complete my train-of-thought. What I was trying to convey is that I don't believe that they would have much success competing with The Buzz.

Planet never went away. They simply moved from 93.3 to 107.3.

As for a similar station on 106.9 competing against Buzz, why not? I've always found the Buzz to be more "female friendly" as far as alt stations go. Something to add some testosterone may fit the bill.

With the demise of Point-Jacksonville, if I'm not mistaken, we have the only Cox owned "Point" left. Maybe the only Point left, period.

there is still a point in tampa, 101.5 the point

actully the Houston's point has a more variety of 90's music then the tampa and even the old 102.9 the point had

The inevitable finally happened yesterday. Both K-Hits and The point played the exact same song almost @ the exact same time! It was Journey's open Arms if anybody was wondering.. Anyway, The Point has been sounding somewhat good lately.. I like the fact they are throwing in some "Hair Metal" songs in the rotation..

Forgot about WPOI in Tampa. So there's two left for Cox. I've also noticed 106.9 has been progressing towards the 90's a lot more in the past month or so. Maybe a natural sign of things to come, with K-Hits picking up more and more of the 80's stuff.

Hair metal? ....let me hear some Ozzy, Lita, or Dokken on 106.9 and then we'll talk. ;D

I will give 'em a nice round of applause for adding Cinderella.
