Cox hit by ransomware attack

95.5 WSB’s stream was working via TuneIn yesterday Friday 6/11/2021. I don’t know if this is related but Alan Sanders was supposed to fill in for Erick Erickson yesterday afternoon. Alan was successful in filling in for Erick but it didn’t air on 95.5 WSB. 95.5 WSB aired The Mark Kaye Show instead. I had to listen to Alan on WRGA out of Rome, GA, one of the GNN affiliates. We should know on Monday whether or not Apollo/Cox screwed Erick over by airing Mark Kaye instead of Alan Sanders. Airing Mark Kaye could have been related to the clean up from the ransomware attack. We should know something on Monday. Anyway, that is all.
Might be possible Cox got one stream up to feed the streaming for all their talkers?

The hourly podcast of the WSB Radio new is still not back. It is still playing the 8AM 6/3 newscast where everything stopped working.

WSB-TV is having major problems this evening. They cut straight to the (presumably) live feed of World News Tonight after the end of the 6:00 PM news joining midway through the final segment instead of going to commercial. They also aired one block twice, back to back.

It's also affecting TV, WSB-TV, for the first time in probably decades was unable to do its 3 hour afternoon news block. WHIO-TV in Dayton also was unable to do their news. I listened to WSB radio via an SDR and it sounded normal this evening but who knows what's going on in the background.
Cox station WSOC-TV Channel 9 in Charlotte was able to air their news that day, but there were minimal graphics and the anchors were reading from paper scripts rather than the teleprompter. I just assumed they were having technical problems, as there was no mention on air about the hacking incident. It took several days to get the graphics package and newscasts back to normal. But still no mention. Also their sister station WAXN-64 was supposed to debut as the ATSC 3.0 broadcast host for Charlotte on June 15. But this has been delayed 2 weeks, perhaps because of the hacking incident since the Next Generation TV standard is more internet based.

As of 12:27 PM this afternoon as I’m typing up this post, I’m listening to The Erick Erickson Show on WRGA in Rome, GA and when the show came on after the TOH news (top of the hour news), they played audio from 95.5 WSB that featured a close of a traffic report from Veronica Harrell, a weather segment from meteorologist Kirk Mellish, and some words from Bill Caiccio. Then they went into the show. When they went to break, they played a traffic report from Veronica Harrell and then they played some ads from 95.5 WSB.

I’m now listening to 95.5 WSB’s stream via the TuneIn app and it sounds like everything is back to normal. The Friday incident where Alan Sanders was only heard on the non-Apollo/Cox stations as he was filling in for Erick Erickson was just related to the ransomware attack.
