with Cox bringing Suzi Hanks in already, and the return of Dean & Rog in June means 107.5 is going nowhere.

The Point? Well that's been "flipped" on this board more times than I can recollect. If it were to flip, I hope the funeral homes around town are having a slow week, because most of us will die of shock. Ric, I wouldn't hold my breath for winds of change at either station, format wise.

You make a good point, and under normal circumstances I'd say "Yeah, but this is Cox we're talking about." However, I've been listening a little more often to the Point since that thread you've mentioned and one of the posters mentioned there were more hair bands being featured. I actually heard Ozzy's "Shot in the Dark" yesterday morning. Perhaps the winds of change at The Point are starting with a gentle breeze. Lord knows they need something exciting infused into that playlist.
 
You're right, there have been a lot of cries of "Wolf!" regarding a Point change in our lifetimes. I think it might not be so easily dismissed this time, especially if CCH implements its announced national syndication model to this market as well as many others in its chain. That would be the proverbia hole in the market you could drive a truck through that we've spoken of in the past. In keeping with Dean & Rog's timing to come back on board, it would make all the sense in the world for Cox to merge KHITS into a full-service classic rocker while simultaneously flipping The Point to Cox's new Alternative Hits format.

The Point's down to two in the chain, and I've read that Tampa's Point flip is imminent. I can't see any company continuing to pay for the services of an 80's consultant/music service for one lonely station in an underperforming format while the rest of the chain has already changed brands and jumped ship to something new. A little snooping on the Jax board shows that my old cynical friends (some of who are readily, even gleefully prepared to hate all change) are actually quite pleasantly surprised by what they're hearing since Cox flipped their Point to Alternative Hits, so I'm feeling a small tremor of hope for our market.

I don't know anything about it from any source, so I know we're just speculating, Purpledevil. Still, I wouldn't count it out. I loved Pam on Alternative and, on a personal note, would love to hear the last of Kajagoogoo in this market. Or anywhere. Forever.
 
Laura Morris out at CBS today! Brian Purdee in charge. He will lead Houston and Dallas both.

Eddy Martiny out at Clear Channel! no news on replacement.

be glad when the Point does flip. I've been saying that station has been pointless for years now. let Mix pick up the 80s/90s/ today's hits.

not to veer off topic, but speaking of Sirius/XM, what the hell is their deal? They sound like the radio. I was excited when I got DIrectTV and found out that XM was included, but come on.

Anyways, all this talking about flipping reminded me of a dream (nightmare) I had that 97.1 flipped to a "movin" format and simulcasted on 106.9. Not my first format flip dream. It would be cool to hear a new alternative hits format and become a big "Buzz kill."
 
Hell, last nite i had a dream Cox flipped 2 of their lowest rated stations to target the african american community and to compete with Radio One, they flipped 1069 to Urban and 971 to Urban Adult. It had to be a dream instead of a reality. :(

Two Urban stations don't cut it any more for Austin, or San Antonio. Houston tried with Party, San Antonio with Power and Austin with The Beat. Jammin 1059 KFMK in Austin plays hip hop only from 7pm to 1am and on the weekends from 12:00pm to 1:00am (a waste for clear channel) Cox which owns FM Talk 1067 in San Antonio will probably be a copy cat and launch it on 106.9. Talk Radio 97.5/103.7 was a rim-shot in Houston as was Talk Radio 92.5 in San Antonio. 106.7 and 106.9 have clearer signals. So I would say either Talk Radio, or some sort of Oldies station. But I would say it is a 90 percent chance if not better for a Talk station.

There are already enough talk stations in Houston already, and they wouldn't do good on FM either. Cumulus tried that already before. Never worked then, never will work now. Houston has room for an urban or alternative.
