Cox Houston changes

Cox which owns FM Talk 1067 in San Antonio will probably be a copy cat and launch it on 106.9. Talk Radio 97.5/103.7 was a rim-shot in Houston as was Talk Radio 92.5 in San Antonio. 106.7 and 106.9 have clearer signals. So I would say either Talk Radio, or some sort of Oldies station. But I would say it is a 90 percent chance if not better for a Talk station.

I don't see Cox replicating the San Antonio FM talk station here. Between Salem, Clear Channel, and Dan Patrick's LMA, all of the top tier, second tier, and even third rate national talk shows already have an affiliate in this market. There's not much programming left to choose from, and there's no hole to fill in the market.

I'd still say someone should give Radio One some sort of competition.

Now, based on the recent May ratings that just came out, which station do you think is going to flip or tweak next???

97.1 was FM Talk for awhile. It didn't work. Now, I realize that was about ten years ago and the signal was crap. And, it was before Cox owned them. Cumulus, as you know, had News/Talk on 97.5, who also had a crappy signal. 106.7 in San Antonio is one of those stations that flips every couple of years or so. They've tried just about every format you can think of and never really has caught on. Probably because once they start building an audience, it's time to flip again. It's really Cox's lone problem in San Antonio though.

I would love to see Cox give Radio One some competition, but more for Urban AC. KMJQ is terrible. They are very repetitive in both newer music and older music.

I know I'm beating a dead horse here, but I don't know why they don't try Active Rock on 106.9 and give some competition to KTBZ. I don't know why Cumulus didn't go this route with 103.7?! No one has tried this here! When they go Rock, they play the same tired old songs... AC/DC, Metallica (and not the great stuff), Lynyrd Skynyrd, etc. KISS does great in San Antonio and it does well in ALL Male demos. Cox here in Houston just seems to be afraid to go out on a limb and try something new. I don't know what they're afraid of?!

Slight thread drift...Speaking of news/talk on 97.5, I saw Jim Pruett yesterday and he's just had heart surgery but he looks great, he was funny and he had some great advice for my 9-year-old. I'm sure you all wish him the best.

So is 97-9 the box.

Nothing but love & best wishes for JP. I'll have to make a pit stop by his shop this next week & chat with him for a bit. Thanks for the info.
