COX MEDIA GROUP joins iheartradio

So the COX Miami stations are now on iheartradio with the Clear Channel stations.

Interesting.

Its not just Miami. iheartradio also added Emmis stations along with the entire Cox Radio roster. However, some people are already upset that a majority of Cumulus stations haven't been added to the platform. And since this won't take place until July, don't expect a lot of stations to be added right away.

The question: When you pull up I heart will the first station be a CC, Cumulus or Cox :p (depending who is in that market) or will they rotate.

It may be alphabetical right now, but the eventual goal is to make the first stations to come up when you view a market's stations the ones that log the most listening hours through iHeartRadio. Ownership will not be a factor.

My understanding is that the Cox and Emmis stations will show up sometime next month.

iHeartRadio's deals with Cox, Emmis and Greater Media are non-exclusive. So, they have the right to join multiple platforms. Cox, especially, wants to go wherever its customers are rather than force them to come to them.

I'd guess the non-exclusive companies have to offer Clear Channel some extra barter and/or pay higher fees to be on iHeartRadio, but it's really a good deal for everyone. Having more companies on iHeartRadio means more opportunity to hear Clear Channel content, the opportunity to sell banner ads on their streams' pages, and a shared cost in support. Also, Clear Channel likely will charge these other broadcasters for their own "support issues," including a change in streaming address. All of that is beneficial to Clear Channel. For the other broadcasters, some have deals for Clear Channel to help promote some of their other products while others simply get the benefit of simplified tuning. I've seen lots of people on these boards complain that they need at least three apps to hear their favorite stations, and that becomes less of a concern when you can be everywhere.

I think maybe Cox stations will show up on ur next iheartradio verison upgrade. Right now they have Clear Channel and Cumulus stations are on iheartradio app.

At least with the iPhone app, they don't need to do a wholesale upgrade to bring in new stations. Cumulus stations have been slowly trickling in over the last 6 weeks, and that started way before the most recent iHeartRadio upgrade and has continued since.

And, yes, the Univision stations are on iHeartRadio and have been for about 6 months now.
