Cox Radio

From Radioinsight.com-
Cox Media Group has begun taking steps towards divesting their other 57 radio properties.

Any guesses which group is looking to expand?

This isn’t a surprise and has been rumored for awhile. Cox has reportedly been pitching the radio division to Apollo Media, which bought the TV properties plus radio in Dayton. There were also rumors Lew Dickey was interested, though his acquisition of Akazoo would seem to imply he’s not.

One also has to wonder if last month’s announcement of Cumulus divesting some stations for cash doesn’t figure into this somewhere.

These stations might not all go to one buyer.

May these stations not land on the hands of Salem, EMF or any other religions broadcasting company.

The Cox stable of FM’s in San Antonio is very attractive. Again, pure speculation, but there are enough large companies out there with no presence in San Antonio who could purchase the cluster. The above mentioned Entercom, Hubbard, Beasley and not sure of the financials, but Cumulus must be mentioned as well.

This will be interesting to see how it unfolds.

Based on what they did with the TV, they just want someone with cash. They feel they have the management expertise. So they want someone who will buy the group as it is, keep it intact, and give them a lot of cash. That means none of the current radio groups.

Maybe, stations will go to different buyers.

Cox owns 99.5 KISS, Y 100, KONO AM/FM, 106.7 The Eagle, KKYX 104.9 and 680, and Magic 105.3.

Are you referencing the San Antonio cluster or the entire Cox Radio portfolio?
