Cox San Diego and KTLA

Does Cox Cable in San Diego still only carry KTLA during its newcasts and Sunday morning programming? I could see them not carrying WB programming to protect KSWB. Perhaps, they're making more money carrying informercials than carrying KTLA full-time?
______________

Most likely, KSWB has invoked the FCC blackout rule for WB network programming, and whatever San Diego stations carry the same syndicated programming as KTLA have requested similar protection under the Syndex rules.

It would seem hardly worth it for Cox to continue any carriage of KTLA at this point.
______________

I could see why the mom & pop UPN station on Channel 49 would not want KCOP available or the CBS affiliate in San Diego not wanting LA's O & O on cable or Fox 6 XETV wanting 11 KTTV off the cable system. They have different owners,

But why would KSWB do this? KTLA IS THEIR SISTER STATION...Both stations are the same company. Does it matter which WB Tribune owned & operated station viewers watch on? They are only competing against themselves anyway.

Except for a few select programs, KTLA & KSWB virtually carry the same exact programming, and KSWB even carries portions of the KTLA Morning News, except KSWB uses their own anchor on San Diego-related stories. As for XUPN 49, when KUSI dropped UPN around '96, they farmed in KCOP via cable until 49 went on the air around '98. It was KCOP's decision to have themselves removed from San Diego cable systems. The only L.A. station I could see being on San Diego cable is KCAL 9 (which it isn't), but with KUSI carrying virtually same kinds of programs as KCAL (KUSI used to air KCAL's Lakers coverage until the mid to late 90s), you'll run into Syndex problems there as well.

MOM & POP? Hardly

XHUPN/49 is operated by Entravision Communications, which also operates XETV/6 as well as the Univision, Telemundo, and Telefutura affiliates in San Diego.

ENTRAVISION!!!!!?????

Aren't they a Spanish Broadcaster???? Why would they run 2 English speaking stations? unusual. Especially in a market that can support loads of Spanish stations. I checked and yes they are indeed owned by Entravision.

Yeah, besides XETV and XHUPN, they run two Home Shopping Network stations in Albuquerque and Tampa-St. Petersburg (home of HSN headquarters), as well as an indy in Hagerstown, Maryland, on the fringes of the Washington, D.C. market. Here's the complete list of their television stations:

Actually, in Tampa Bay, Entrevision OPERATES now-former-HSN O&O WFTT ch.50, which carries Telefutura programming -- that station is owned by Univision, which got all the HSN/USA stations in 2002 and converted them to Univsion or Telefutura. Entrevision owns Tampa Bay's Univision affil, WVEA ch.62.

I don't think KCAL-9 will be on Cox San Diego anytime soon. One of the reasons I see is that because of the Angels' contract with KCAL expiring this year, KCAL went out and got the Dodgers for their station (a big mistake I feel, because I think the Angels have better ratings, but that's just me), and there's NO WAY Cox would want the Dodgers on KCAL competing with SD/4 with Padres games.

But that's just MY angle on it....who's to say?
