Cox sells Louisville

I just read that Cox Radio has their Louisville radio cluster and four others up for sale! I don't know much more but I hope my friends over there are going to be ok.

South Central has wanted to enter Lexington and/or Louisville for a very long time, maybe this is the shot to do just that.

That's all either market needs is another "Mix" station blaring out the Delilah every night. ::)

If they go the Top 40 route, then they may be on to something. Their Owensboro/Evansville Top 40 (WSTO) is quite the powerhouse station and it sounds very good.

Delilah is already on WLUE 104.3,and we already have two Top 40 stations. I would like to see a sports station on FM like WHBE ESPN 680. They have really built a good station with lots of local programming. I think sports would work on FM now. WQKC 93.9 wasn't given much of a chance to succeed by Cumulus when they were sports.

Maybe Cumulus comes back to the Ville for a second round of radio station ownership????

Not clueuless i mean cumulus they have got to be the most incompetent people of any of the big boyz at running radio stations!!!

Look at how very little time they gave the ticket and in los angeles look at kabc. A company that gave a talk show to geraldo i cant say much for. And now they are going to syndicate geraldo??? If anyone has listened to his show on either wabc or kabc he just isnt that good at being a talk show host on radio.

But dont bring cumulus back to louisville ever!!!

I doubt The Cloud will want to come back to Louisville. I bet one of the smaller groups like Lynn Martin will buy the Cox cluster.

Indeed! I had forgotten she was already on a stick in Louisville. An FM talker could be a good thing, sports especially!

But suits have a way of fixing whats not broken. Considering all cox stations in the ville are doing well i would not expect any changes. But as with new owners of a house, new owners come in and want to put a new coat of paint on and make it there own.

Why would a radio station be any different???

Terrible? I'm a country listener (along with Oldies and News/Talk) and when I pass through Louisville, Q103.1 is on my must listen short list. Different strokes for different folks, but if all their stations are as engaging to listen to as WQNU is, I must respectfully disagree with this post.

I have to agree with Bob. 'VEZ is going through the same identity crisis as a lot of AC formatted stations are these days, but it's hanging in there. 'SFR makes 'QMF better and vice versa. Good town for classic hits. 103.9 is great for us...uh... upper age demos. And 'QNU is slowly catching up with the heritage of 'AMZ.

I'm not in the biz, don't have a clue about billings. But it's hard to argue with their numbers.

Let's hope for the sake of the current employees that Cumulus nor Martin buys the cluster.

What is your measuring stick for radio products? Considering that all of Cox's stations routinely show up in the top 10, I would suggest you reconsider.

As was stated different strokes for different folks. I'm glad the stations are doing well and I hope they continue to do so. To me, I only listen to 107.7 and 103.9 so I can't speak for the other two. 107.7, even after the format change is playing pretty such the same playlist they played 10 years ago. 103.9 is a good station as a P5 preset, but nothing I could have on the entire day. Too much repeating of songs. WQMF isn't great, but they have more variety then 107.7. Again, I'm glad all the stations are there, as someone mentioned, 107.7 makes QMF better. I just wish they knew that Skynard has more songs then Freebird and Sweet Home Alabama, and that Zeppelin has more then Stariway and Rock and Roll.

South Central had the chance to buy Radio One. Imagine what they could've done to help DJX.

I can't see LM Communications buying Cox either especially since the purchase of WBKI.

The GM of the Birmingham cluster told the newspaper there that he will be forming a group and bidding on the stations. It looks like he's been aware of this for a little bit and is close to having his ducks in-a-row.
